Help wanted for TRA001 router
Looking for anyone living within reach of Malvern East with a TRA001 router who would be prepared to assist. I have been contacted by someone who has one that won't start. I have taken him through the usual suspects of a dusty switch, loose wires or bad brushes, and what remains is the speed controller or the armature, both of which are expensive. i suggest that a swap of speed controllers with someone else familiar with the issue would identify the culprit.

In my experience the speed controller usually gives plenty of warning it is on the way out before you get nothing at all, i.e. speed fluctuating randomly in operation , and not obeying the speed set on the dial.
I've had one other instance of a Triton router failing to start which might be worth checking. The clear plastic sliding shroud which covers the ON/OFF switch is supposed to return to cover the switch itself under spring pressure. One time I switched the router ON, but the clear shroud stuck in the open position. There must be a microswitch or other safety feature in there which prevents the motor starting if this happens. Long shot, but worth a look. It also obviously won't start if the router has been raised right up (in a table mounting) to the "click" point which locks the spindle for bit changing.

The shroud covers the switch when it is off. You have to push it open to turn it on. Or have I misunderstood you?
