Default Humble Triton Powered Compact Table Saw

Hi all. After trying ever so hard to fit a cabinet saw into the workshop I finally admitted to myself that it is not going to happen. Nevertheless, I decided to build my own table top for the humble compact saw table. I am happy with the end result. It is more accurate and surprisingly I have managed to keep everything tight and square. Let me know what you think.

Meanwhile, I will plot about how I am going to possibly fit the cabinet saw in one day.......

The sheen on the 16mm MDF is achieved by applying 4 coats of a canauba and bees wax blend. It has dried quite hard and slides nicely. Also, I have placed a dust hood inside the dust bag and attached the 4" hose to it to aid in the dust collection.

I'm thinking - "nice work". Even if MDF is not real wood it is still darn useful stuff!

I am hearing ya re: the MDF. I hate using it but sometimes it just fits the bill.

    Brilliant job.
I haven't looked on the Triton forum for about 50 years or so and it was such a pleasant surprise to see such a excellent effort such as yours.

As for the MDF, well, if it had of been around in the olden days, guess what? The woodworkers of that era would of utilized just as much as we do. No shame in using good, practical material to achieve our goals.

Thanks Dusty! One thing that MDF has going for it is that it is stable. Very handy for applications such as this one.

    Default table

Ooooh! Nice work. MDF is good. I also like to use laminex coated MDF - good and slippery - kitchen offcuts and office throw-outs. I'm a chronic skip CBD scrounger. Amazing some of the stuff that gets tossed out in office refits.

Now tell us about some of other tricky things we can see in those pictures.
Do we assume you also have the height winder fully functional and have you got what appears to be some sort of sliding table hanging off the underneath of the table?

    Nice! Very nice!

Thanks Terraaustralis. You are right about the laminex coated MDF. Another tip I have received is to use form ply for jigs etc.

No such luck for the height winder. The compact saw table does not have facility for one. I have to stick my hand under the table and do it the old fashioned way!

The sled you see in the picture has two runners on it that hug the sides of the compact saw table. It works quite nicely. With the new table top that I have built I will now remove those runners and replace them with one that fits the mitre slot I now have. If I get adventurous I may even extend the sled given the table top is now bigger.........
