Cool Invitation to Triton Clubs to have a web page

    Hi to all.

The idea has crossed my mind a few times (fleetingly), and for some reason this time it hung around long enough for me to register it.

If any Triton club is really interested in having a web page, and doesn't know how to go about it, I am willing to create a page or two for your club, and to put those pages on the web. The address would not look very pretty, so I can also help with some instructions on how to get a decent web address (such as ours - www.tritonwoodworkers.org.au ) which does not cost very much per year (off the top of my head, all of about $25/year, and no - the money does not come to me!)

This is not some mad money-making scheme - I'm not charging for this. Genuine offer for Triton clubs only at this stage, and please, only for clubs who genuinely don't know how to go about this.

    Regards,
    Stuart

Wow, was I naive in thinking this would be of interest to Triton clubs, are they not interested, or worse?

Of course, there is always the problem that you have to have a club first.

Currently, at least in NSW, it is prohibitively expensive in the Sydney Metro area to get a hall for a day, let alone a club house. Obviously a few people have landed on their feet thanks to their local council, but most councils seem to think any group wanting a hall are all millionaires - on another discussion group, one member noted that a modest hall that used to cost $1,000 for an evening now cost $5,000 - and that's just a bare shell, not even a fridge to put some coldies in.

Another council hit a small group of gamers with a demand for $5,000 in 'back rent' when it discovered they were an 'unincorporated association', which they ended up paying as the council could take action against each of them individually, and the members' likely legal costs, even if successful, would have been more than the five grand.

So there are likely to be a lot less 'Clubs' in the future too.

Interesting point- perhaps it is time for the masses to rise up against the tyranny which is local council.

Back in the real world though- our club has somehow (was before my time) gotten use of the room & workshop at the local Tafe for $0. It is not ideal compared to clubs which own their own clubrooms, but still, it is a great situation for us. Could this model be copied elsewhere? Holmesglen Tafe are very generous to us in that regard- surely other Tafes would be willing to follow suit?

Newcastle club has definitely landed on it's feet ( Is that a mixed metaphor?) We have obtained the use of a hall from Lake Macquarie City Council for nominal rent although the upkeep is the club's responsibility.......... Our Triton gear has had a workout bringing the hall up to spec. )The process was long and involved reams of paper and bagfuls of red tape but the end result was well worth it......... This has been bought about by a very active committe ably and persistently led by Preident Graham Boot........... If anyone out there is interested in the ins and outs of the process drop Booty an email at [email protected] and I'm sure that he would be only too pleased to let you know how to go about it..........

    Thumbs up new triton club

i am a member of the triton club of Bundaberg, QLD. we formed about 2 months ago and meet once a month. we have no incorporation, hence no president, secretary or treasurer and the associated costs. we meet at out local bunnings at the DIY display area once a month and swap ideas and someone does a demo. its cheap, effective and is working so far. i am looking to making a yahoo or msn group to make things easier but never lose sight of the KISS principal.

I think that you are quite right about the KISS principle............. Our club seems to arrived at it's present position by virtue of having existed for a number of years and seemed to progress naturally to where we are today. Two clubs, two very opposite ways of operating, two clubs with members enjoying themselves........ Can't ask more than that!
Where would we all be without Bunnings?............ I have to call in sometimes even when I don't want anything just to breath Bunnings dust......

Keep on enjoying your GMC...errr..Triton club and keep in touch.
