I had an interesting conversation with the owner of a small-ish hardware & tool store the other say, concerning Bunnies, GMC, Ryobi and whatever.

Seems that there may be a chance for Triton if GMC don't completely drop the ball - the people from GMC have been contacting small store owners trying to ingratiate themselves - not very well it seems, still haven't reached the ramen 3 meals a day stage, but they realize things have to change since Bunnings won't be stocking pallet loads of their goods.

He thinks the Bunnings/Ryobi deal won't last more than 5 years before Bunnies try to screw Ryobi so much they are told to take a hike.

Glad to hear the infection continues Steve...

I was down at Triton today for a couple of hours, having a good look around, and chat. Got a copy of the new catalog (yet to be released), and will put some photos on my blog as soon as I can open the compressed (electronic) version (.sit format)

Speaking of which, and picking up on one of Steve's points

I don't think there is much life left in the WC2000. As I suggested earlier, I really think there needs to be a new tablesaw, and one based on the current expectations - cast iron, induction motor etc. There is still a large Triton inspired purchasing crowd, and that is a huge resource that is still available - selling to those already convinced to buy something orange is definitely an easier path than trying to convince someone that there is a brand called Triton, then that the tools are worthwhile.

    Hi all,

I've been sick so not reading this as much. Just 2 quick points:

    1. Some people said ozito stuff was rubbish. I've got a 1/4" router and it's worked fine so far. Can't speak for any of their other stuff.

    2. It was said triton parts were hard. I've ordered them as recently as a couple of months ago through bunnings and they come in in about a week. They no longer support some older stuff, disapointing but understandable.

It would be nice if the stuff didn't rust, but few things in life are perfect. Maybe I'll make a timber top for mine which allows the saw to tilt and incorporates normal slots. Or maybe I won't bother.

Speaking of which, PWS (and I a bit) are working on an add-on top that will give you slots for both the 1000SE (or whatever mitre gauge), and also to fit an Incra fence.

It's looking good so far. It still won't allow the saw to tilt, but a proper mitre track is going to be a definite improvement (and being able to easily use an Incra fence....)

With regard to the tilting blade hassle when using a Triton, a jig could me made that has the desired outcome.

Place an angled timber piece with a stop attached at the switch end and slide your cutting timber along incorporating the triton fence.

    Stu
I have thought of making a table top with true mitres. Little more than bolting on mitre track each side of the blade and infilling with MDF or similar. It would also reuire a packer between teh fence scales and the fence, but all up a pretty easy fix. Would aslo allow to make the top slightly wider than the original.

Photos are back - temporary hiccup with the blog hoster. The more quality orange tools, the better!

As to what you are saying Brian, that is pretty much the way we are going, but the mitre track has a way of fixing into the MDF without additional height loss, and means the whole solution is easily reversible.

Are you planning to make it stiff ?

Also at the risk of drifting off topic, what is so great about the incra fence ? I've glanced at some online stuff but don't get it. What does it do the RTA300 fence doesn't for example ?

    Update re TRITON and Bunnings

Got a shock this morning when browsing the now a lot bigger Bunnings store at Mile End (Sth Aust)

There... on display was not only the TRITON scroll saw
BUT ALSO the 8" and 12" TRITON BANDSAWS

Crikey...... they might have cut down on things like routers etc etc but are now, for the first time I've ever noticed, showing off some of the bigger Triton equipment......

So not all is lost (yet - fingers crossed)

I'm about to spend another bulk of money to help fill my shed and to compliment my existing equipment... but even present Triton owners I speak to are worried about the future....... this surely can't be a good sign? No one seems to be currently doing demos this way... I regularly check the website for dates/locations but to no avail Not even Bunnings.

PLEASE ! can someone make me feel happy and tell me all will be okay, there is a TRITON today, tomorrow and in the future ??

Maybe I'm paranoid, maybe I am selfish... but I want this product to continue..... so many more bits to buy.... but not if the backup & parts will slowly fade away.....
Hills Industries sold Triton to GMC who said they wanted to make it their top of the range line, but I think they closed down the original Triton factory, so I wouldn't be surprised if it is being phase out.

The Triton factory in Cheltenham Victoria is well and truly running and has not closed down.
