How do you know what the policys of GMC are? Do you work there? Did you work there? You surely cannot summise a companys business policys from what you see from the outside!!
To say that GMC are not innovative is an absolute joke - show me any other DIY brand that has shown that same innovation that we have over the last 5 years......Redeye Laser, Magnesium, Carbon Fibre and retro fit Lithium gear. Not to mention all the price points of certain products that GMC have changed over the years......$99 compressors, $99 rotary hammer drills, $99 generators, the list goes on. Since buying Triton they have bought out 16 new products in two years - not a bad strike rate for new lines into a range. Triton are commited to bringing out quality tools ongoing and will be pushing our products hard - particularly with Triton Preferred Dealers.

GMCs policy is to sell lots of mainly crap tools at the cheapest possible price. One thing I came to realise as I got older is that if you pay peanuts you get monkeys! Triton has never been about the cheap product but about offering a good product at a reasonable price and backing that up with great support. Unfortunately the focus is changing as directed I suspect by the new owners.
Again how would you know GMC's policys unless you work there? Every business faces challenges from time to time and we are facing some now, we will come through it stronger and more experienced. We dont rest on our laurels contrary to some of the stuff written here and are constantly trying to improve things - people need to understand, that just doesnt happen overnight!!

If Triton disappears it will be unfortunate, the end of another era, but I do not think we can blame George for that. George was a pioneer who achieved a great deal. He has set the standards for the new owners of Triton to follow. The fact that they decided to completely ignore his proven recipe is what will kill the product. Not George.
sorry dont agree with that - dont understand why the owners would buy a brand and then kill it.....seems a little sado-masochistic to me not to mention a waste of 14 million dollars!!!!

    G'day Bob
Since starting this thread.... to generate some thought on where TRITON is heading...and to reassure myself that I was heading in the right direction and not buying something that would soon resemble a dinosaur... I have been constantly amazed at the desire by so many for the product to continue......

I am confident on what I have read, seen etc that TRITON is still alive and kicking - maybe not quite the original business set up by George... but still in there. New products are being released which is a promising sign... after all they wouldn't, unless crazy, do that !

So confident in fact that I have increased my possession of a meager router table to many, many of their products.....

The only downside in my opinion and that of many is who will be retailing the products ??? New sales tactics are another sadness for the old-timers whereby they have cut off most instore demonstrations - but there again times change.....

Lots of chatter about Bunnings getting rid of most of the tools etc, first hand comments from the likes of Mitre 10 here and others that they won't touch them...... That aspect is a concern as I like to feel the tool before buying... old school I know..... not into ordering stuff like that on line or by order now and you might get it in 3 months.......

I was recently amazed that Bunnies Mile End here in S.A. now stock the band saws etc.... so all isn't lost.......

I have seen recent photos of Triton HQ (courtesy of Stu's Shed - http://stusshed.wordpress.com/ ) so it is still there..... and hope to one day visit the real place to see where it all comes from or thereabouts.

I used my Triton router and triton router table half an hour ago, and its in constant use and has been for 6 years next month.

So its a good product and I hope it continues to flourish.

how that can be said I dont know!! 16 - 20 new products released since we bought the brand, approximatley 20 new lines almost finished and coming soon - lots of innovative stuff too.

We are pushing our Triton Preferred Dealer program hard and are decking out all the Bunnings warehouses with new bay designs - lots of activity happening just need retailers to get on board and support the brand.....which leads us to needing you guys to get into stores that dont stock it and tell them they should. People power does work!!!

Triton was very well represented at the Sydney wood show, and drew plenty of customers and inquiries from what I could see.
I lost my two mates toward the end of Sunday and had to phone a ....where are you?
Of course they were over at the Triton stand.
I liked my Triton router table so much, that I bought a second Triton Router table top from the Buy sell and swap section of the forum. I'll use it with my Gifkins Jig.
The great thing about Triton from where I sit, is that it continues to give great service even after we move on. Caliban has my old Mark 3 Saw Table which I had owned from new, and used to renovate two houses.

I have had Triton gear since George did his first demos in Melbourne in about 1975 and I agree it is a bloody good product. I to cannot understand why Triton seem to be cuttingt their own throat. I was recently looking for a Thicknesser and would have purchased a Triton except I could not look at it or check it out first. I have purchased a different brand.

However, when I was in Busselton W.A. last week on hols, the Mitre 10 store there had the both bandsaws, and the thicknesser on the floor you could touch. They also had some Triton spare parts on the shelf as I purchased some. They even had some Triton bits that I have never seen or heard of before. They had several other of the more common Triton tools as well. These guys have said they still have in store demos, not sure if they said monthly of or every 2 months or so.

Carbatec in Perth had the Triton thicknesser on the floor and a range of Triton bits I used to see in Bunnings stores. They also carried some spare parts for Triton.

It must be a hard way to do business- selling sight unseen to a community who by their very nature are hands-on.

To that end, and not because I have any vested interest (I don't), but if you are (in Melbourne and) seriously considering buying one of the tools and are desperate to actually see one, use it etc, then consider contacting me and I'll see if I can't arrange an in-shed (my shed that is!) session and you can make up your own mind.

    Default Triton Steel Cutter

    Triton Steel Cutter on ebay.
Started selling them for $120 from memory , then went to $140.Now listed at $175.It doesn't sound like you get an extra blade with it either now.

$120 with blade then they made it $140 without, now it's $175 with a blade, says so in th title...

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Triton-Steel-...QQcmdZViewItem

At least I assume that means a spare blade, it's not 100% clear...

They probably sold a bucket of them at teh lower price and decided to try and make some more money on them and jacked it up till they sold slower. Trouble is everyone who wanted one has probably already bought.

I happily paid full price ($398) for mine when they first came out. I have had still have value for money. So I bought 4 more at $140 (with a spare blade - but still using my original blade), 2 for Triton club mates and 2 for presents to brothers in law.

At $200 at your door, with a blade worth say $50, for $150 I would still be getting a much better and safer machine than a similarly priced abrasive cut-off saw.

    Default Triton manufacturing rumour

I heard recently that triton manufacturing in cheltenham may be closing, perhaps before the year is out and perhaps in only a few short months.

GMC who own's Triton now, has managed to kill Triton.

I might use my credit card to get my triton accessories now before they are all gone for good.
