MOF issue?
Hi there,
I have had a triton MOF for about a year, recently it has been making a surging noise and when it dose that the motor housing lights up (like a spark)near the speed controller. Don't know what it is originally did think it was a brushes problem but it is unknown. Have you had this problem or know what it may be so it can be fixed soon.

Have you checked the magnetic ring on the shaft that actuates the speed controller? If the controller is OK, it's the only other thing I can think of that would give this symptom. What happens at the lowest possible speed setting - does it stop altogether, or struggle even more?

I'd definitely check the mag ring. This photo shows the ring in the larger model (top of the shaft, above the alloy-coloured nut). HTH

I expected to see a piece broken off! Give it a good blow out, de-glaze the inner surface of the speed controller body with - for example - a liquid cleaner. Re-assemble and try again. If you think that the controller is sound and the mag ring is obviously undamaged, with good brushes, it only leaves the field windings suspect. The only way they generally get damaged is via a stall. Sorry I can't be any more definitive or helpful.
