And since the title of this thread is News from Triton .....
Have a gander at this.
Triton and Kreg tools .... you know, the blue pocket hole thingy and all the other blue attachments to things that help to make your work more accurate ... have formed a partnership.
Now this is really something new in the world of wood working tools / retailing / strategy.
And Endgrain hasn't had time to be on the forums recently - too many wood shows etc and too little time. But I'm sure he will be back soon.
Have a great woodworking weekend Triton wood-persons.
Interwood.

Hi Interwood,
All information regarding the future of Trition is eagerly watched by those of us that have been Triton fans for many years. (from the old MK3 days).
Since 2008, and the demise of GMC, there has been a lot of vague commentary and rumors passing around regarding the Triton brand and I like to check to see that the next person giving any updates has the credentials to back their statements.
I like to keep up so that when my TRA001 needs new brushes or a replacement worm gear, I will be able to locate them - even if it is in UK as recommended in the past.
We have a member in the UK who has been most helpful over the years and I have just discovered that he may have been a Triton demonstrator in the past.Last edited by jw2170; 30th August 2012 at 11:47 PM. Reason: spelling

Eddie, I repacked mine with Ni-Cd cells, and commented on it here.
It's probably a worthwhile exercise to read the thread, as there is information added by Crowie re using Ni-Mh cells, and details for a re-pack service.Chris

Hi chrisb691,Thanks for the reply, I have never had much pleasure with the Triton Drill, Batteries would go flat so quick it wasn't much point int getting the drill out orf its case,Has been back to where I bought it from twice ,they said the batteries were ok it was the charger, but it made no difference They should have sent it back to the factory, but they did it them selve'sI think the only real use I have had from irt was drilling the garage floor at the place i was living then, to hold down the lathe ,had little use since then, apart from my son borrowing it to put a hose real on his wall.one batterie did 4 1/4 inch holes as was flatSo I will give the batterie rebuild ago or get some one to do it for me.many thanks to all the help.

Hi Jw2170, sorry I missed your question re; Triton and Bairnsdale electrics... No I am not any the wiser and guess the answer will come one day. As for buying from Carba-tec it seems that the consensus on this forum is that carba-tec give good after sales service so if they have the gear that you want you might as well buy there as elswhere. (PS. Paypal found in my favour, absolute silence from Bairnsdale ever since.)

Carbatec may not be selling Triton much longer. A local hardware shop up here in Bundy is a Carbatec franchised dealer and they are discontinuing stocking Triton gear and discounting what they have left (a S2000 WS, router table and a few add-ons like mini ext table and wheel kit). I think the WS is going for $400

Thanks for the update, Len.
I bought a TRB001 from Carba-tec in Sydney today. The box shows the Triton brand is owned by Powerbox AG, Switzerland, which agrees with information I received from the Receivers of GMC a couple of years ago. (Distributed in Australia by Kingchrome/Kinchrome?)
I note they now include both a 1/2" and 1/4' collet and the through the table winder, which is great.

No worries either way.
The company that bought Triton from the GMC receivers was "Powerbox AG, Switzerland"
This is on the box my TRB001 came in today and I was also personally advised of this by the receivers office in 2009/2010. I was employed at the time by a company owed money by GMG and dealt with the receivers on a regular basis. As I was a member here and interested in the future of Triton, I asked the question at the time as to who purchased the Triton brand from the receivers.
It may well be a Swiss registered company based in UK.
Six of one and half a dozen of the other, really. As long as their products remain on the market and we can obtain spares and service.James,

Triton Spares?
I'm looking for some Triton spare parts. Searched everywhere and had the run around calling Kingchrome who then told me to call Carbetec. I was on hold for at least 28mins before anyone even answered, (not unusual for Carbatec Melbourne - very annoying) asked about the spare part and gave them the exact part number from Triton. They put me back on hold only to ask what model sawbench I had and where I bought it (Triton Compact from Bunnings) as if it was never even made by Triton. I wasted about an hour on the phone then gave up. Even spoke to Bairnsdale Electrics who weren't too helpful despite being helpful in the past (I think its only if you buy something from them also depends if you talk to the father or the son).
Anyway to cut a long story short I think the part I'm after (over head guard bracket/support) is actually made in Melbourne yet it seems impossible to get or even find someone who is willing to help or give accurate advice.
I thought this would be sorted by now (Nov 2012) but it looks like its still in a huge mess.
If the new company hasn't sorted out what they are doing about spares they need to at least let their distributors know what to say to customers who ring them. I felt like I was dealing with Telstra the way it is handled at the moment.
Last week I was told I would get a call back from Carbatec. Despite spending over an hour searching for one part I still have no answers.
Am I better off just ordering from the UK website for Triton Spares? The cost of shipping is more than the part itself, seems silly when its made in Melbourne.
How long do we have to wait to get answers on all this. I appreciate that the Triton range is continued but it looks like if its owned and operated off shore then us locals here in Australia will be left out yet again. Just another woodworking company that's hard to deal with and not interested in helping Aussies. I'm sick of people hand balling from one department to the next!

Triton Spares?
G'day Andrew,
searching for Triton spare parts within Aus appears to be pointless.May I suggest (google) toolsparesonline. Yes they are based in the UK. You'll be a little taken back at their extensive range,in comparison to false hopes and wasted phone calls. I've used them several times and found what I was after. I used Royal Mail Surface Mail as freight preference to keep costs down and was quite surprised at the short turn around. You might want to consider a few items to make the exercise worthwhile.Good Luck.

Thanks capt, yea this is what I ended up doing. Postage wasn't too bad I guess. My main complaint is that none of the distributors in Aus seem to know about this. If this is what Triton want us to do then all the dealers should be made aware rather than hand-balling from one to another and wasting everyone's time. I guess we should just be grateful the company is still around at all.
