Default NewTriton Modular Workstation MK 7

    Hi
I was cruising assorted woodworking videos on youtube and came across a review of of the New Triton work centre MK7, You can see the review here.

Besides being surprised to see a new workcentre I was also interested to hear the man from Triton talk about the company. Bearing in mind this is an English video. He talks about their research and development headquarters being in York. He acknowledges the origins of the company as Australian. He also talked about their sister brand GMC thats a blast from the past.

I have seen a few Triton reviews from the UK and it seems as though they are positioned as a premium brand.

The workcentre seems interesting although they are like other tool brands trying to lock you into their ecosystem. The basic workcentre is little more than a portable table. There are drop on tables one that turns it into a router table and another making it saw for cutting flooring or smaller pieces.
The table saw is better than the series 2000 that I have as it has a tiltable blade. However they are still using a variation of the fence similar to the series 2000. I think that is a bit dated.

There was also talk of more tools to come.

Any way judge for yourself have a look at the video

I have tried to update the YouTube link

Interestingly Triton's web page is still not showing it... So it might not yet be released... Look good and versatile.. but it also looks like addons might be on expensive side..
They have moved away from steel to aluminium and other softer materials.. so it might not me as sturdy for tradies as the 2000 series...
Also bit disappointing thing is that there is no more circular saw mounting. it has been replaced by the saw itself... at least it seems like that...
which means no more cheapish upgrade for those with circular saw...
And that little saw on top... that is way too small for any serious work... that thing looks like maximum cut capacity height would be maybe 25 mm... not that versatile at all... at least on the workcentre 2000 you could turn the circular saw upside down... and have proper depth of the cut

Default Which path should I take?

    Hello fellow enthusiasts,

I'm soon to be given a workcentre 2000 (WCA200 1st version) to use for a while and have the option to buy it from my brother in law. Not sure of what condition it comes as but apparently it's in bits but wasn't used much. Hopefully all the parts are there... anyway, I know that it would come with the old version of the saw chassis which isn't compatible with the height winder kit. I've found a place where I can get the kit and an upgraded chassis so now my attention is on replacing my crappy ryobi circular saw with a new one. I can get the 2000 watt Triton TSA-001 from VEK tools for about $300AUD but I'm also liking the look of the more powerful 2300 watt TA235CSL (although this one is proving hard to source.)
I was told by Timberbits (who checked with the Australian Triton distributor White International) that Masters will be stocking Triton now and that they will have exclusivity on some items. As yet I'm still to hear back from Masters as to whether or not they can order me in a TA235CSL.

I then saw the video above on the new WX7 and really like the fact that it can tilt the blade in table saw mode. Although I don't think it can flip over to cross cut mode, even though I would probably just make a crosscut sled anyway.
So I'm faced with the dilemma of whether to get either the TSA-001 or TA235CSL (I'd love to know which is better by the way) then the new chassis and height winder kit then make an offer on my brother in law's workcentre (any suggestions as to what a fair value on it would be?)...OR
Should I replace my crappy circular saw with the TA235CSL (if I can find a legit one) to at least give me a better hand held experience, use this new saw in the "borrowed" workcentre of my Bro-in-law's and wait until the WX7 becomes available.

I already have a Triton TRA-001 router, dust collection bucket (which is not that great if I'm honest) and the Superjaws SJA200 (which is awesome) so either way I'm going Triton all the way. I've even gone as far as too build a French cleat hanging system on my work bench back wall with "Triton Orange" colour matched paint. It all looks good with my AEG drill and driver combo and various other orange coloured items around the workshop, which I got way ages ago before I discovered that I was on an Orange and Black themed workshop trajectory.

So to make a long story short, what do you all think I should do and why?...
    1) Get a new 235mm circular saw, make an offer on the workcentre, upgrade the chassis for the height winder kit, then get the router table top (eventually) and be done with it...OR
    2) Get a new 235mm circular saw, borrow the workcentre until the WX7 comes along, get that and the router table module and have the use of a table saw, handheld saw and a router table.

Also what is newer, the TSA-001 or the TA235CSL

any advice is most certainly welcome and appreciated.

    Cheers

    -N

    Hi Niggles

from what I could see on that video for the Mk7... It doesn't look like it will take circular saw at all.. It will have its own addon saw...
With all bits and pieces they have shown, and knowing how they price their components ... I would think that buying MK7 with enough optional components to work the same as WK2000, it will come most likely at the price of a half decent table saw.. so unless you really need portability... I would steer more towards either getting proper table saw or sticking with the wk2000...

    Hi Prle77

Yeah portability is a really big factor. I only have a single car garage and would like to eventually park the car in there as well so a table saw is completely out of the equation.
I also like the idea of the tilting blade of the WX7.

    Hi Niggles

A few similarities here. I have limited space in he garage, a bit of an orange theme going (any orange tool will catch my eye at the tool stores) and am in the process of converting the dust bucket with a cyclone mod).
I have the newer saw and have been happy with it but others reckon the old one is better.
The WX7 was due to be released in the USA by now. I got excited when I first saw it but now I'm not so sure.

I ended up getting the TA235CSL and am very happy with it in the Workcenter 2000 I got given.
I'd love to see your Cyclone Mod if you video it (YouTube?)

Folks, I had a great time today reviewing the new Triton WX7.

Have a look at my first video below:

Let me know if there is anything you'd like to see specifically and I'll see what I can do.

Nice to see new equipment BUT when are we going to see a reliable supply of spare parts, within Australia, for existing Triton equipment?
