Opinions on 'Newer" Style Triton Dust shroud needed
Hope you all can help. I have just spent quite a while cutting MDF architraves and trim on the triton. I have the older style dust shroud (Like ripstop nylon) as oposed to the newer style without the bottom vacumm hose.
With my setup I still get a lot of dust on the table top.
Does the new style with only one vacumm port work more efficiently?
I use an old black and decker big industrial cleaner without the dust bucket. The cleaner sucks well but would the newer style shroud help? Does the bag fill up because of gravity?
I'm looking forward to your opinions cos I have it apart for a clean and now is as good a time as any to upgrade if it would work better.
Cheers J

I have no idea what the old one looks or what model of Triton workbench you have? but if you have the 2000 model, do you have a vacuum attached to the top of the blade guard? That would suck a good amount of dust from the top and reduce the amount you are getting on the table.
Need more information!

Dean,
I have a model 2000 workcentre with the upgrades saw plate and height winder kit but the dust collector is made of a ripstop type nylon with vacumm ports at the top and bottom. The newer variety only have the vacumm port at the top and a totally sealed bottom unit.
The model I have has an apron that covers the saw plate and the rails and is held on by press studs and velcro that loop around the rails. The bottom part has sides encased in foam which are compressed aginst the rails by the table top to supposedly seal the dust. Does the newer model seal in a different way?
I'm wondering that if the bottom is totally sealed then the vacumm power at the top should clear most of the dust.
Hope you can shed some light on this.

Jock,
From the way you have described your model it sounds like the newer model seals in much the same way (foam, velcro, etc).
I belive Triton revised the design because there was a tendency for the small opening at the bottom of the black bag to clog up (only 35 mm or so) and a vacuum cleaner doesn't really move enough air to be effective. The newer model has a 300 mm or so opening at the bottom and allows gravity to do the work below the table. A vacuum hose can be applied to the saw blade guard to take care of the fine dust that gets thrown above the table.
Cheers
George

With the height winder kit fitted and the blade in any position but fully up the bag does not seal against the table top allowing dust to escape. You have to devise a method of supporting the bag when the blade is in the lower positions. My temporary fix 2 years ago was to use a piece of corrugated cardboard from a large box with a hole cut in it for the saw and secured with a couple of cable ties on one end. Keeps the bag supported and keeps most of the dust contained.

G'day Jock,
I've just been writing about the same problem on another thread (see "recently upgraded triton" ). Mike from pommyland suggested using aluminium strapping under the top of the bag when the saw height is lowered. Seems like a usable idea!!!
