Power respirator won't work.
Removed 4 screws from bottom, seperated top and bottom.found 1 small fan motor and 2 batteries. Problem was where wire was soldered on to the terminal of the fan motor, wire had broken off, (wire is a solid wire and fatigue had set in due to movement) resoldered wire and reassembled unit and back in action. 5 minutes work to fix.

That isn't an uncommon problem with the Triton Respirator. Mine was the same and I have know one or two others in the Triton Club who had that problem.
Easy fix but shouldn't happen.

Try Jaycar. Had been looking at upgrading myself. They have 9000maH Ni-MH D size with solder tags for $28 bucks each. They'll be able to help out with appropriate power supply for charging too. Take the unit in with you. I've always found the staff very helpful. All up it'll put you back about $90 bucks but a 1.5 hour charge and no memory would be great. Just don't know how long you'd get out of the batteries. Perhaps Jaycar might be able to give an indication? Should kick the cheapies that are packed already.

Oops
Pulled my respirator bottom off. Takes 5 batteries not two as my first glance suggested! At 28 bucks a pop makes for an expensive change over to go to NiMH with increased capacity. Jaycar do do a 5000mAh NiMH size D for 13 bucks but no solder tags (should be able to fix that with some flux). Change over with these would be $65. This assumes you have a charger with delta wave detection to switch to a trickle mode. Jaycar sell a nice one (MB3583) for $72. Very versatile charger. Still that puts price up to $137. Cost benefit ratio sucks even considering I already own a good charger. So, I'm now considering stripping out the old batteries and hooking up an external plug for my remote control car batteries. They run at 7.2 V and 4200 mAh. Already have a fast charger so I'll be able to use one batt whilst the other charges. Just have to work out a way to attach it to the belt!
