requesting advice on router table
First day back in the shed after our 6 month holiday in Oz. I started resetting up; the workshop for the future.
However this year I want to make mitre joint boxes using my triton router table and triton router.
But !
I am having trouble putting the mitre on small sides using the table because the black insert rings stand proud of the table surface.
As anyone ever sanded these black insert rings down to come level with the table surface?
Or have they another system using the triton table and sliding table setup.
I reckon its alright to have the insert rings above table surface when using the sliding table action because the two surfaces match in height but if the small box sides which only ride across the inserts hit the black ring they rise and fall as they cross the router bit and that is a definite no no.woody U.K.

yes I remember that mod. in fact I printed it out at the time, but has anyone just sanded down those black insert rings flush with the table surface?

This is one of the best things I have done in the workshop. Look at my thread here for the obvious improvements this made. Well worth it.

Depends how much "meat" will be left on the insert after you take it down level, I guess John.
Have read about guys on the forums trying it, can't remember the outcome.

I did it quite successfully John. Just put them face down on a belt sander. It wasn't a perfect solution but better than what I had.
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

I put a simple 3 mm MDF overlay on mine, with a couple of routered slots for the fence and cleats around 3 sides. Works well. i posted pics somewhere in this forum

thanks for allo the helpful replies.
going to do the sanding option first, second do the mdf,and third buy the sheet of ali when I find some, but in the meantime I thought I had better check that a straight router bit comes tohrough the table at 90 degrees?????.
otherwise a 45 degree mitre for boxes would be a waste of time.woody U.K.

The sliding table is raised above table surface, presumably to allow a work piece to slide and not hang if set lower. The bit is at 90 to the table and needs the supplied insert if using the sliding table.
If the insert is sanded down I would lose the 90 setting.
So need to order a second set of inserts sanded down if going that route so that beading pieces running along the fence and do not lift when approaching the router bit.
Perhaps Triton technical would publish their views on the subject.woody U.K.

John, maybe try emailing Triton, or perhaps forum member Triton Japan may be able to suggest something.
