Any router mechanics out there?
I'm new to this forum, but have been a Triton user for around three years.
Around two years ago I bought a Triton router but have only recently started using it. As such it is out of guarantee, but a problem has developed with it.
I will try to explain, but please excuse any non-technical language.
There are two main columns on the router which allow it to plunge - one plain, and one with a toothed rack. At the top of each, housed inside the motor body, is a brass(?) bush/bearing.
The problem is that the bearing on the smooth column keeps falling out. Pushing it back by hand didn't work, so I've gently tapped it back in with a wooden block. It doesn't fall out any more, but now the router plunge doesn't plunge very well!!
I've oiled both columns which hasn't helped. In free plunge mode I can just about use the router, but adjustment is difficult. The "action" seems very stiff, and it's impossible to adjust the height in "handle winder mode". It helps a bit if I push down on the other handle - I guess this keeps the two columns aligned, but that's no use when installed in the router table.
Has anyone come across this problem before, and is there an easy fix?
Any advice will be very gratefully received.
Thanks
David Ingram

It sounds like you distorted the brass bush when you refitted it.
You may be able to ease it slightly with a metal reamer.
Otherwise get a new bush.

Thanks for this thought Bob.
Any suggestions on how to remove the bush? I've downloaded a parts list from Triton, but it's not immediately apparent how to get the posts out of the router.

Tim - yes, this thread describes the overall problem, although in my case it's now severe and the router is virtually unusable.
I didn't have a problem until I tapped the bearing back into it's housing. I've obviously either damaged the bush or trapped some dirt in it - I won't know which until I can remove it.
I think I'll email Triton to see if they'll advise me how to get the bush out. Whilst I'm out of guarantee, I'm a bit miffed that this has happened on a router that's hardly been used.
I'll keep you posted.
