Router micro height winder not working
Hi. After using my table mounted Triton TRA001 this morning I noticed the micro height winder no longer works. It lowers ok but does not lift. It seems to that the winding gear is slipping. I have removed the plunge spring so I know it is not that. Perhaps the bearing has worn? Has anyone come across this? Can it be repaired? Thanks.

It will be the plastic worm drive that has gone (see other posts for details). It can be replaced if you can get hold of the part (they are different parts between the two routers). Ray Girling has an excellent set of illustrated instructions on how to do it on his web site.

Fantastic. Thanks for your help. I'll now search for the part.

Similar problem
I had a similar problem over xmas.
The micro winder would not engage straight away for either up or down movement.
I followed Rays instructions, dismantled and reassembled the mechanism, and everthing seems to be working fine at the moment.
So I would suggest, that before you look for spare, just pull it apart, give it a clean, and put it back together.

I've had to replace the plastic worm drive on my MOF001. Judging by the number of people trying to get this part (!) it seems it is a common weak point with both of the Triton routers.
One thing to be wary of - the plastic worm gear likely won't be completely trashed, but it only takes the threads to be slightly deformed at one point to allow slippage. When I first pulled mine apart I thought it was OK, but closer inspection revealed a very small section of damaged thread that was causing the problem.
What's the chances of Triton ever doing anything to address this obvious design fault? Did someone (on another thread) mention that the offending part could be made of brass to prevent this problem?

Sounds like a real problem. I will pull mine apart and check it out. In future, I might use the micro-winder sparingly. I was in the habit of using the through table height winder which uses the micro-winder exclusively for all adjustments. Unless Triton produce an improved replacement part I will now be using the handle for major movements and only the micro for refinement which is probably what it was intended for anyway.
Also, great instructions Ray. Much appreciated.

You do have the plunge spring removed, right? Glad the instructions help.
