Post Router table in custom stand

    Hi all
Just wondering if ne1 has mounted the router table on a home made stand??
Im hoping to get enuf cash together to get the table top this week but coughing up another $140 odd for the stand is nearly impossible for me at the moment so has anyone done this and if so i would like to know your opinions and tips on the best way to do it.
I have plenty of pine lying around to make a frame.
I have the WC2000 but dont really like the idea of pulling the top/saw/dust collection out each time i need to use the router table.

    Thanks
    Tony

    Tony,
Have been wondering and considering the same thing (It is in the To-Do List). Even had the brain wave of suggesting to Triton that they should offer the router table stand as a Project - even sell it as a kit (wood and plans). Certainly would make a very worth while project, could even offer it as a weekend course at Holmesglen TAFE. To make one would certainly enable you to make use of the many other orange accessories available.
In 'The New Router Handbook', by Patrick Spielman, he makes mention that "the author's Ultimate Router Table", plans and construction info is available in another of his books, "Router Jigs & Techniques". So till I purchase the book or find the time to play around and build one myself, I will just have to watch this space and hopefully someone out there will be able to point us in the right direction.
    Cheers, Steve.
PS. I too find it a pain in the ... changing from one to the other, especially with the dust bag.

    Tony,
You've got me started. Went looking on Web for Router Table Plans. Check this site out: http://www.woodworkersworkshop.com/ enter Router Table Plans in the Search Engine (defaults to Google but only for the site itself). Surely we'd be able to build the base and join the Triton table top to it.
    Cheers, Steve

I wouldnt think it would take too much but for someone like me that has only just started my woodworking exploits it can be a bit daunting trying to design a base that the Triton will fit on, i was hoping someone had already done it but maybe not lol.

I have adapted an old 1200 X 600 school table ( the ones that have a metal base, with a chipboard top )to take my Router table. Cut desk top basically in half.Remaining half, kept on desk, butts up against one end of Router table. Put a piece of 50 x 25 hardwood at other end of Router table.
Found that I needed to cut slots in top rails of desk base to allow full movement for my Biscuit Joiner.
Works well, and such School desks can be had for a song
    Cheers
    Mick

Firstly, keep a close eye on the Trading Post. Buy both the stand and table top then keep the better table and sell the other one.

Christmas is just around the corner. Get the wife and family to chip in with you for the stand.

My first Triton purchase was the Triton Router table. At the time I thought I could build a stand for it. I had just started my woodworking hobbie so wasn't up to speed on building cabinet frames etc...
It only took me a few days to realise I wasn't up to the task at the time.

Now I'm sure I couldn't duplicate the features from the Triton Router Stand. The power switch is the most expensive item and the safety issue and cost precludes further investigation. Lightweight and retractable legs for easy storage I wouldn't be able to duplicate.

The time and effort I would spend on researching and building a stand, I could be building something the whole family could use.

And if your convinced on building one yourself then start with purchasing the necessary parts from the parts department. Triton have a parts list and on their web site.

Maybe the Front and Back End Panels and/or the side panels could be purchased for a reasonable price so you could fit the table perfectly and lock it in.

Then build a support stand for it.

Nah, sounds silly that way. Never mind.

Let us know how you go.

    Finnster,

I bought my router top from a garage sale and it came with the two ends of a MK3 screwed to it with cross braces.

I used it like this for a few months clamped to two wooden saw horses until I bought a wc2000. It is a pain in the butt to keep swapping as you said but I don't have the room for any other arrangement.

It might do you if you are interested. You can have it for a song. The only problem is I live in Wollongong NSW.

    Thanks all for the replies.

I think i may simply have to put up with fitting it to the wc2000 until prolly after xmas when im hoping i may have put enuf cash aside to get the proper base.

My other half bought me the triton router stand the other day bless her soul

While it does cost a leg, it does have the switchbox and fold away legs for easy transportation or storage.

The router table fits securely onto it as well as you would expect.

How much wood could the woodchuck chuck if the woodchuck could chuck wood?

Fold-away legs? Has the stand been upgraded (again???) Thought I had the latest one, which has removable legs that are stored in slots in the stand sides.

    Growl,

Does either end of the MK3 table have the power connection on it? If so (and you haven't yet parted with it) I would like to take it off your hands. I have made my own stand from a Triton table , an old metal framed table and a pine frame (with wheels) but don't have a good power arrangement. I live in Dapto so not far away.

Don't suppose you know of a local Triton Group out this way (have never seen one advertised)?

    Regards

    Mark

MarkB, why not just get your local Hareware store to order a triton power switch in for you? I ordered one for my 6" jointer, the switch only cost me about $45.00
