Sloppy Mitre Gauge
Hi all,
I have had my Triton 2000 for about 4 years or so, I have never had any problem with the Mitre Gauge until recently I have noticed quite a bit of slop in it.
Problem:
With both knobs done up tight and while presing down on the gauge while in the track, with a 400 x 20 x 50 piece of pine against the face, I can move the wood to produce a deflection of the "Angle" by 1 or 2 degrees in either direction. The metal slide does not seem to be moving, it seems to be the mitre gauge itself. It seems to be pivoting on the "Angle Locking Knob" with movement coming from the "Slide Locking Knob".
(hope the description is clear)
I have also noticed lately that the "Slide Locking Knob", if done up to tightly just rotates around and around, I think some excessive wear has occurred and is causing the movement.
Anyone else had this problem or can suggest a fix other than purchasing a new mitre gauge.

Oooooh Choose me! Choose me! Choose me!
You need a TSC10HB!!!
Or you can pull it apart, sand or rough up all the bits of plastic and aluminium, replace the plastic knob and bolt with a new bolt with a nyloc nut so that you can get some tension on it.
Cheers

Or you can go back to your original manual which gives instructions how to tighten it up (Manual on their website www.triton.com.au) - not trying to be obtuse- just haven't read it myself for a while

Remove the knob then the nut and bolt, replace the nut and bolt and check to see if the problem is fixed.
Growing old is much better than the alternative!

The slide locking knob should tighten down solid. Without seeing the actual problem it sounds as though the nut or bolt has a stripped thread.

I think the pressure plates that hold the protractor in position have just worn out, also the locking knob has a problem.
I might order some new parts tomorrow I think, ordered a micro adjuster from Bunnings 2 weeks agao and still waiting, Triton would not take my order direct as they used to.

I am a bit confused though, the blue colour would CLASH terribly with the Triton Orange and I don't think it would balance very well sitting on top of the Triton Work Centre. Definately not up to Tritons normal standard of upgrade I think.

Ask Sturdee - he knows the exact colour to buy so you can make your own colour mod
