Sound proofing the Workcentre
I have built a box underneath the Workcentre for 2 reasons, one to take the dust away from underneath the workcentre and also to quieten the saw. The inspiration for this came from a couple of forum users Big Shed and Foxtail. The dust extraction works ok but the sound proofing is negligible. Foxtail claimed that with his setup that there was a significant reduction in noise, the only gaps I notice are where the top sits on the rails of the Workcentre, there is also a small gap on the other side of the Workcentre where there is a hose leading from the motor to outside the box. Has anyone built a box under the WorkBS box.JPGcentre or have any thoughts about how to reduce the noise of this noisy saw?Fox box.jpg

With my table saw I found the blade (both free running and while cutting) and using a smaller blade inset plate were major contributors and because I needed the small insert plate slot I lashed out on a low noise blade but that didn't make any difference, Then I bought a 24 tooth ripping blade and that was much quieter while free running but louder when cutting. My quietest free running blade is the negative rake ally and plastic cutting blade. With cutting it depends a bit on what I'm cutting. They are all noisier than I would like them to be.

Thanks Bob hadn't considered the effect that the blade could have.
