That would be tantamount to an automotive website having a forum entitled "Cadillac/Chevrolet" , Sure they are both General Motors brands but that is where the common ground ends.
As the ancient Greek historian Thucycides once said, "Of all manifestations of power, the one that impresses men most is restraint."
Restrain yourself from such perilous thoughts, Stuart!

I checked out the local M10 today to see what the status of the ryobi power tools was .
1. Still have the Makita display
2. A new Dewalt display
3. A new Bosch display
4 .New assortment of Icon power tools
5 No evidence of that Ryobi ever existed in their store
6. No GMC or Triton tools
Next stop will be Home Hardware they usually have a big range of GMC stuff.
In fact Home Hardware have been stocking GMC stuff for quite a while.

OK i havent read the whole thread so if im repeating im sorry.
Bunnings and Ryobi went exclusive as of 1/9/08
GMC didnt like the arrangement and pulled out of the deal they had, hence the bad blood between them.
We use to be the only Ryobi service agent in our town and now we dont repair them at all, can still get parts but they are twice as much as before.
Im still getting info through work so i might have more to add later

Just regarding Mitre 10:
I can tell you that Mitre 10 itself harbours much resentment about the Ryobi-Bunnings deal. Techtronic Industries will no longer sell Ryobi to Mitre 10, indeed their group account was closed some time ago. There was a small window for individual stores to order directly from Ryobi itself, but only on prepayment terms. I can imagine that the latter offer was looked upon with some bemusement by the individual store owners!
GMC is still presenting Triton as an expanding brand, and as far as anyone is saying it will hopefully continue. GMC would like Bunnings to continue with Triton, and are hoping for a change of mind.
Anyone hoping that Mitre 10 will host a Triton fire sale is barking up the wrong tree methinks.

Just to add to the rumour saga. I was talking to a rep from Glenfords today and he told me GMC was going under . I asked on what basis he made his remark, and he told me from discussions with Makita, Dewalt and other reps. I thought it sounded like rubbish, but perhaps the Bunnings dealings have hurt more than we thought.
On a factural note, Carbatec are now advertising the Triton gear, and my Mitre10 are happy to take Triton orders.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new
