Default No more "Special Orders" for Triton or GMC at the BigB!..

    Dear Chaps,

Hot off the press! - forthwith there will be no more Special Ordering available at the BigB of either Triton or GMC products that are not regular-stocked items. This will apparently also include equipment that is specifically featured in the BigB's Triton "Benchtop Wood Working Tools" Special Order brochure...

Dear Eagle - If you happened to be tuned in, could you please give us an idea of which retailers will be our best bet for getting this gear from. Are any particular chains planning to regularly stock the bigger stuff by any chance?

    Best Wishes,
    Batpig.

Do you know if this includes parts or just whole tools/benches ?

    Dear Damian,

No I don't know for sure, but I suspect it will also apply to parts, add-ons, and upgrades, etc.

I'm only speculating, but I think the move is aimed at helping competitors of the BigB who are willing to regularly stock the Ryobi-end of GMC's range in the wake of the whole BigB/Ryobi exclusivity-arrangement thing. Not allowing the BigB access to non-regularly-stocked higher-end gear is the reward from GMC for these retailers' loyalty to the lower-end stuff, even if they have to "Special Order" the said higher-end gear in for their customers as well. I think that's fair enough. What's good enough for the Goose is good enough for the Gander...

Triton upgrades and add-ons are most probably quite lucrative (that sort of post-purchase thing almost always is...), and as such, GMC would be dangling them also as a protected "sweetener" for the BigB's competitors...

    Best Wishes,
    Batpig.

News just to hand, and this is public knowledge from Bunnings staff (who are shattered btw (they don't want to see the end of the orange tools)).

Bunnings has ceased all trading with GMC, which includes all Triton.

They really don't know what it is going to mean - it is as of today apparently, but they are saying at this stage, that any trucks of GMC/Triton tools that arrive will be sent back.

Items currently in stock will be become depleted by normal sales, but if the previous events are anything to go by, there might be a sudden sale of all Triton and GMC tools to clear them out. I'd say it is worth watching Bunnings over the next few days / weeks to see how it develops.

Who knows the implication for Triton/GMC, but that must be a pretty huge blow.

I don't have any more info, other than what Bunnings staff are saying, and some I've heard I'm not saying here as I cannot substantiate the reasons, but they were pretty critical of GMC.

That really makes me feel confident, was at the demo tonight at Fountaingate and at the end lashed out on the big triton router.

Oh well, the new toy will make me happy

Question from a newbie; BigB - is that a Qld only retailer?

Not sure if you know Batpig, but last time I looked

the BigB is owned by Wesfarmers
Blackwoods (the engineering suppliers) is owned by Wesfarmers

is this a ploy to segregate the market, and get us to shop at Blackwoods where we might put something else in the trolley
