Default Stu's Shed - Article on Aussie made

Just finished reading a great little article on Stu's Shed
    http://stusshed.wordpress.com/2008/0...manufacturing/
about Australian made Triton..... and the efforts they go to to ensure it is as good as they can get it (WC2000 workcentre)

Worth a read I reckon - support Australia, too many other countries are buying up our businesses (e.g. Vegemite!) or getting others to make what we love .... and let's not be an outpost for China or India.... besides those languages are too hard to learn at my age

    Aberdeen,
I whole heartedly agree with you, I read stuarts article and where possible I will buy australian items. I was recently reading American woodworker and in most of the photo's there were triton items being used. If America can acknowledge how good triton products are maybe the wider audience in Australia should.

How many DIY programs made in Australia are seen to be using items such as the triton? the only one I have seen was an old repeat of "diy rescue".

I have seen triton equipment used in a number of USA based programs including the popular "mythbusters"

I beleive that a lot of Aussie products need to be advertised more and demonstrated more. It seems to me that there should be more diy clinics showing the safe and correct use of power tools and showing the benefits of power tools.

I'm sorry if I seem to have hijacked the thread slightly

Triton (aka GMC) could do well to offer their range to some of our local DIY shows...... the exposure would be fantastic I reckon.....

    Go Aussie products !

It's expensive though and they may not have the $.

Placing product on those programs is essentially the same $ as putting an advert on TV.

You know the business report on the news ? 30 seconds of the days market action ? The channells couldn't be shagged employing reporters to do it so they invited the banks to put someone on to do a speel. Fine, but then some clever accountant figured they were advertising the bank so they MADE THEM PAY TO DO THE REPORT. So that segment of the news is paid for just like an ad.

The TV stations are not shy about taking your money by the wheelbarrow...

I don't know if triton are in that much trouble. Look at the prices on ebay and the rate the boxes were flying at the woodshow last weekend. Across the road from my lady friend a bloke has his 2000 out in the driveway every weekend. I think it's more repositioning, and of course the issue with Bunnings, whatever that is...

Aberdeen, reading the article was interesting, but you should also read Jeremy Kriewaldt's response to it. It is quite realistic and to the point.

In case you hadn't made the connection, that is me and I am glad you thought my response was realistic. It isn't a popular line to take, but I hope that it shows that this question is much more complex and dynamic than it is often portrayed to be.

Never a doubt the issue is more complex.... but that is also they way of life and the world......

In an ideal world we could be self sufficient but that ain't how it is in reality..... besides with the current alleged shortage of workers how would or industries cope if everything we used to make came back here?

Hills hoists, foods, cars, it goes on and on........ not to mention if all the overseas call centres closed how would be staff the shortfall.....

That's life in this ever shrinking globe of internationalism
