Superjaws problem and repair
Gday all.
I'm a big rap for the superjaws and use mine a lot. I posted the following in another recent thread but thought the info relevant enough to merit it's own thread.
A weak link in the unit seems to be a small circlip that fits on the small end of a 1/2"- ish dia shaft about 250 odd mm long that is a vital part of the clamping action. My superjaws is about 2 years old and the shaft dropped out about a month ago ( for the hijackers), circlip nowhere to be found, and of course it was at a bloody inconvenient time.
I'd suggest learning from my inconvenience and getting a couple (one spare) of 5mm circlips from your local bolt/bearings bloke, cost under a dollar and could get you out of a spot. Maybe stick them underneath the unit if you work on site. I put a small flat washer under the circlip and would recommend doing the same.
Too small for most common circlip pliers so just use pointy nose jobbies to ease it on.
BTW, apparently circlips (external anyway) are sized by the diameter of the shaft they fit on (not the groove they fit in), in this case the 5mm is a smaller nub on the end of the shaft.
Hope this helps someone..........cheers.............Sean
The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Try upgrading to the next version of the shaft. It has a thread and nyloc nut on the end. A much better idea.

Speaking of which - went to use mine today, guess what. The new, super flexible hose has completely split. For F***s sake. What do I have to do - solve all the problems myself?

To Woodworker101 and all the other Triton D...............RS,
As people who have an ear more inside the Triton door than others, is there a reason why these problem fixes are not diseminated to registered owners of said equipment?
This is not a witch hunt, mearly wanting to gain info and try to keep the good name that Triton has (had?) afloat.Greatest Movie Quote Ever: "Its good to be the king!"____________________________

Actually they are Triton Deviant toy makeRS.
That's right Doug, they make those things you get in the post from Canberra in unmarked, brown paper parcels.
But look on the bright side Woody. Most of the forum members make up your main demographic. You can make a fortune by selling to the direct!

I know its a late reply to thread....but I have a question.
When have you ever seen a car manufacture call you up to tell you about their latest model (that fixes the bugs of the previous model - that you purchased 6 months earlier) - and then proceed to offer you a free upgrade ?
They will continue to fix the problems that some people experience - but will never swap new for old.
Triton have been known to do that in the past - and hopefully will continue to do so - if and when required. They too will continue to fix the problems as the occur.
I think that is pretty good service considering the price difference between any Triton product and an Holden.
