    Default Switch box

I have just received a Triton Switch box from Bunnings special orders. I want to attach it to my home made router table. It comes in 2 pieces, the "swich box" (CMA 050) and the red "switch box plate" (WCA 058), which is a big flap you can hit in a hurry to cut the power.

I was told it comes in 2 pieces because the plate sometimes gets broken and it is easier to replace that instead of repairing the whole unit. At 79 cents for the plate it is a good idea.

Now, my problem is the plate and switch seem incompatible. The plate does not fit the switch.

Are there different types of plate available?
    or
Is the switch built specifically for attachment to Triton tables only

    Thanks George,

If I don't get any more replies I'll try the number again tomorrow. I've given up for today. 22 minutes of being told how important my call was is enough for one day.

    Default Switches and flaps

There have been 2 wariations of the red flap for the switch in my time. The first operated on a plastic hinge that simply bent for movement. Over time, these could wear out.

These were replaced by a version that used a pin and socket style of attachment. Black protrusions from the switchbox pass through slots in the table (Router table or Workcenter). The flap then attached directly to the switchbox, and was held in place by a small red plastic pin.

If you are going to try and use the later model on a home made table, you will need to be working with some form of sheep material that is thin enough to allow for the plate to hook onto the switchbox.

Depending on what order number was used, I think you can still get either model.

I am out of my office now, and so do not have parts lists or numbers printout handy.

I probably should have put up the pics in my first post.

By the sound of what you are saying Steve I would guess that I have the later version switch with the earlier plate. That being the case I just need to order the other plate.

Just as a matter of interest, how much did the switch and plate set you back?

I need one for my new router table and am undecided between the Timbecon unit and the Triton one.

I have always liked the Triton Mk3 switch setup better than the 2000 Series and the one used on the RTA300 Router table, ie the earlier unit had a male and female socket on the back, rather than the dangly bits on the later model.

At bunnings the switch was $25.87 and the plate was $0.79. Total $26.66.

While I was trying to solve this problem I came across a site in the UK who was asking 37 pounds.

Thanks for that. The Timbecon one is on special at the moment for $27.50, normally $37.50, I think. It incorporates the off-plate in the switch and seems quite easy to use.
You lift the lever to switch on, push to switch off, and it incorporates one of those safety plug things you can take out so other (little?) people can't use the equipment.

It is shown on their website.

Arch your red plate is the older model. You need the red plate with little red plastic fixing pins. The red plate attaches to the black lugs on either side of the base plate.

I too have used the Triton Big Red Switch on my homemade router table (see http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ad.php?t=44542).

For those people who are used to the red switch on the Triton WC2K it seems the logical choice for other workshop applications - it's intuitive.

    G'day Knurl,

It was after seeing your table that I decided to get the switch, thanks for sharing your work.

I didn't think that there was any way the 2 pieces were going to fit together.

Back to Bunnings to get the right part.
