    Default Taper jig

Here's a jig I've built that others might find useful. It's based upon a mix of other designs, but only loses 5mm of cutting height.
It's made of masonite and MDF, with the masonite providing both grip on the top and sliding ability underneath.
I've set the fence at 320mm to give plenty of width, but it could be made wider.
The hold-down clamps could alternatively be toggle clamps.
The slot in the centre rail has a recess underneath for the t-bolts to ride in, similar to that shown underneath the grooves in the masonite. The recess is slightly under 3mm in depth, leaving a bit over 2mm of masonite - too thin I hear you say? I have prevented the end knobs from pulling their t-bolts through the masonite by packing washers on the top side of the masonite to fill up the recess in the MDF, so the T-bolt can't pull through in normal use. If I were doing it again I would simply stop the recess in the MDF before the ends of the slot.
One big plus of this is that your hands are well away from the saw blade - you simply push it along the fence with your left hand. The end stop is to assist with repetitive cuts, but I've made it movable so as not to impede cuts to pieces longer than the jig.Taper jig 001.jpgTaper jig 002.jpgTaper jig 003.jpgTaper jig 004.jpg

It looks good, I might have a go myself soon.
