    Default Tool Spares Online?

    Hi everyone,

I have been looking at some of the previous posts that mention Tool Spares Online's website as a place to purchase parts for Triton gear.

Many of my parts I have been able to get from Carba-Tec, but there are some that they did not have available.

Before I go ahead and order overseas, I would appreciate any feedback from anyone that have used Tool Spares Online – particularly anyone in Australia. I read that someone had to pay 47 pounds for delivery to Melbourne! Does such a large cost apply to the very small items as well? What was the service like?

    Thanks,
    Vicki

Surely you can tell from the checkout page what the shipping costs will be . If not, email them and ask.

High costs apply to very heavy tems, or large volume/lightweight items (such as a dust collection bucket), which are priced on a fictitious weight basis by the post office and other freighters. Small items are often only 5 pounds sterling.
But you won't be committed to a purchase without knowing what the freight cost is.

    Thanks to both of you.

I'm not just interested in freight costs for individual items. I'm more curious about about the good and bad of dealing with these people. I prefer to do my shopping in Australia whenever I can.

Also, I have many friends with Triton equipment and I am wondering whether these are the people to refer them to for some Triton parts?

    Any other comments please?

I have never used the com[any that you mention so I have no idea what their service is like.

I guess the bottom line is - if you cannot buy the parts locally then you have to go overseas. Freight is charged according to weight or volume - this is not a fictional charge. If something has a low weight and a high volume, the freight company must charge for the space taken up in their vehicles. Also, most international shippers give you a choice of shipping methods some are quick, some are not. Faster is more expensive.

A few days ago I bought some Dremel router bits from an American supplier. Total cost , including shipping, was about $35 , the local supplier has the same thing priced at $110 and currently on sale for $60, I would still have to pay for freight, the downside is that I will have to wait about 10 days to get them.

I will not buy from local companies when the price difference is rediculous.

If you do buy what you need from overseas - particularly from Britain, make sure that you are not being charged their local taxes such as VAT or state sales taxes.

I bought some triton spare parts from them a couple of months ago. I purchased 40 pounds worth of parts, and paid 10 pounds for delivery. Considering the parcel size, I think it is reasonable. From what I remember, it took around (or just above) 2 weeks for delivery. I would use them again if there is something I need is significantly cheaper there or not available down here.

If you look at the Triton site you will see that they are the official Triton spares suppliers.

    Default Triton spare parts

Hi Seasidevicki....and anyone else wo is interested.

Toolsparesonline is owned by the U.K. company that now owns Triton. (Bought Triton from the receivers when GMC went down the gurgler).

Kincrome Tools and Equipment are now the distributors in Australia for Triton products and in the 3 months since appointment have invested a lot of $$and energy in Triton products and parts.

As you can imagine building up a stock of parts to suit a range which is over 20 years old will take 6 months at least.

It is the intention of Kincrome as wholesale distributors to make parts available through Carba-Tec and other retailers and to this end we will be building a parts base which with some luck/effort/application will be the equal to what Triton did for years. We will also to the best of our ability provide some good advice and problem solving using some Triton expertise. I just hope the pool of users wanting Triton parts and new products can stay with us while we get ourselves sorted.

    On another thought.

I worked for some time retailing (among other things) very good quality hand tools. (For "high quality read expensive"). As an Australian retailer we were working not with one hand tied behind our backs, but with both hands tied. Most of the American manufacturers have postal order businesses so are geared up in their market for supplying literally thousands of mail orders per day. We would buy from these manufacturers and add freight, GST, storage in a warehouse, distribution to the retail store and then a fair (not get rich) margin at the retail end. All of those expenses stayed in Australia to be spent by the Government, the truck drivers, the warehouse workers, the retail staff, the landlord etc etc. Is it any wonder then that customers would abuse you because "I can get it for 25% cheaper if I buy it on the net" not thinking for a moment that just to turn the key in the door of a retail store packed to the gunnels with slow moving tools costs the retailer 25%! And this does not take account of the cost of warehousing and distribution in one of the most expensive countries in the world to trade.

It was one of the reasons I decided to move back to the supply end of business because the retail staff cant do much other than smile when someone comes into the store picks your brains for half an hour on the hand tool and how to use and sharpen it and then goes home to order it on the net. Some even openly boasted thats what they were doing.

We cant forget that one of the golden rules of economics is that every dollar gets spent 5 times as it circulates the economy. How many times does the dollar circulate the U.S. economy when you buy on the net.......but I saved 25%!

Please feel free to contact me at Kincrome if you need parts, in most instances we will be able to assist.

We have stock of all the Routers, Superjaws, Workcentre etc.

P.S. I also believe it is up to everyone to decide how they spend their money.

I have purchased parts from both toolsparesonline, and also the Woodworking tools from The Woodworking Centre and only ever had exceptional service. They will reply overnight, and freight takes 1-2 weeks.

I will happily buy through local agents, Carbatec in Auckland, NZ have seemed to have a wide range of bits, but have used the pommie crowds for those bits that were unobtainable.

Thanks for everyone's comments so far - it is very interesting to read them.

Thank you especially to Endgrain - you have made some very important points. I have always tried to shop locally first and buy Australian whenever I can to support our local economy (I am a member of Ausbuy). That is the main reason I brought Triton items over 7 years ago. I will certainly be waiting for more Triton parts and items to become available locally in the coming months.
