Default Triton 12' Dual-Bevel Sliding Mitre Saw - Help

I'm a DIY, and recently have been doing major renovations to a home I recently purchased. so far I've been borrowing mitre saws from friends (10' Ryobi Chop Saw, 12' Makita, sliding single bevel) I've done quite a bit of reno's before (working for a general contractor) and have always used Makita.

This saw is now available at big box home improvement stores here and Canada for $350. Generally once you get into the dual bevel sliding miter's the cost jumps from $200-$300 to $500+ here, so I was a little shocked to see this product for this price. Triton is not big here and I'm having trouble finding reviews on this product. I know Triton was recently acquired by GMC and there have been some skeptics in terms of quality due to this.

I want to know what brands Triton would compare to? And quality? The saw appears well built, but I don't want to outlay the $$$ on a inferior product. In Canada, the known brands are Dewalt, Bosch, Makita, Rigid, and Ryobi (Ryobi being the low cost brand)

    Any help would be great!

    Dear BM,

That particular saw has already been marketed over here for a year or so as a GMC DB305SMS - same saw, just dark blue instead of orange. GMC would probably be best compared to Black & Decker (rather than DeWalt), Bosch "Green", Maktec (rather than Makita), and lower-end Ryobi.

Why don't you try starting another thread titled something like "GMC 12" double-bevel SCMS...", but you might be better off down in "General & Small Machinery". I haven't noticed any particular thread over the months devoted to the unit, so you might just do okay if you start one...

    Good Luck,
    Batpig.
