Default My Triton 235 just started smoking

I have the saw mounted in a series 2000 table and while it's had little real use I've recently been giving it a bit more of a workout. A friend was running for local council and I volunteered to make the stakes for his corflutes. The price of the hardwood garden stakes was ridiculous and I ended up buying a stack of 70x35 pine (75 @ 2.4m to be exact) I halved these to to 1.2m and then used the Triton to rip them into two for a grand total of 300 stakes.

The saw managed all of this without missing a beat. Since then I've used it to make a small number of cuts while making a workbench. Again, no problems.

Today I started making a simple obelisk for the garden. We plan of using a few of these and I decided to stick with the pine for a prototype. I followed the same approach as earlier ie., I ripped two lengths of 70x35 into approx 33x35. I then started ripping some 20mm strips off some 1 metre offcuts (these were for the cross pieces on the obelisk). It was at this point that the saw stopped. I was pushing the feed a little and the breaker tripped and I assumed I had overloaded the saw. I reset and tried again a little more gently but with the same result plus, this time there was smoke coming from under the table from the motor housing.

I have removed the brushes and they are both approx 15mm long and should be good for a while yet.

I'm not sure what to try next and I'm hoping that somebody can point me either at the answer or to a repairer who might be able to help.

I would rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

sounds like you burnt out the motor, for it to be smoking, your best bet is to do a googole search on tool repairs. but it oculd be that it is cheaper to buy a new saw than repairs,

    Thanks mate.
I stripped it down and you were right. The cost of new parts got me two thirds of the way to a new saw with no warranty etc. so I’ve ordered a new saw. It’s on its way so I should be back in business fairly soon.
    Cheers
