TRITON 3-1/4 HP Router, Model TRC001 or Newer version for router table?
Greetings.
I"m a novice woodworker about to embark on some work around the house.
I'm trying to decide if I want one of these two model Tritons:
TRITON 3-1/4 HP Router, Model TRC001 #144303
Does NOT include a winding handle for above table bit adjustment.
Price: $229.99
Sale: $179.99
Or should I pay the extra loot for the supposedly NEW model with the
winding handle:
Triton 3 1/4HP Plunge Router #150289
Also included is a winding handle so you can adjust bit height from above your router table in 1/128" increments
Price: $269.99
Short story.
I"m wondering if paying an extra 90 samolians is worth it. I plan to mount this unit (one of them)
to a Bosch router table model RA 1181. (ya, I know but it is what I have).
I'm a weekend warrior type and would not use the router much other than for some
projects in the near term. Long term I expect it would mostly sit and collect dust. (ha).
Do you think paying the extra loot is worth it? Far as I know the only difference
twixt the one on sale (the older one) and the one for 269.99 is the newer one
has the thru the table handle adjustment.
I don't have any big issue (I think, anyway) with adjusting height from below. Is having
that above the table handle all that much better? My inclination (based on knowing nothing ) is to think for light use the handle is just a luxury.
By the way, I"m a cheap skate and the 179.99 one is looking like a deal to me and
it is calling to me. I just want to get some opinions and thoughts before I make a decision.
According to the email I got from the folks at woodcraft.com the handle adjustment
is the only difference. If anyone knows otherwise please post.
Oh, and if any of you experienced hands have any input on my concept of marrying
the Bosch table with a 3 and 1/4 hp Triton let me know.Last edited by Uzi; 19th December 2009 at 08:49 AM. Reason: math and grammar

With the built-in rack-and-pinion coarse wind and the fine adjuster which works at any point in the plunge range, then providing you don't mind getting down to operate the handle you're good to go. The above-the-table height adjuster came in with the smaller model (MOF001) and has now "transferred" to the larger machine. The extra handle is definitely not worth the extra IMO. The above-the-table bit-changing is the killer feature, but for table use PLEASE remember to remove the plunge spring (a 10-second job).
For my reviews of both machines, see Large Router and Smaller Router. No experience of the Bosch table, sorry.

Enjoyed the pictures on your site. I can't wait for the big orange router to arrive so I can start
drilling holes in that Bosch table. Hah.
I hope the darn thing clears the base. I'll know soon enough.

The Triton routers use Porter Cable hole spacing, so don't drill until you have tried all the combinations of existing holes.
