    Default New Triton 82mm Planer - TP720

I just noticed on the Triton web site, under Power Tools, a new Planer with 2mm depth of cut (maximum).

No photos, suggested pricing, or availability mentioned.

Can anybody throw some more light onto this product for me.

    Thanks

    Derek

It's so when there is a Triton demonstration, the demonstrators have an orange coloured plane rather than the blue Makita most of them have.

    P.S.
Sorry for using the "D" word twice in one thread...

I solved this by purchasing a De Walt planer.......the yellow planer basically disappears in the orange chassis
Ours is not to reason why.....only to point and giggle.

How did you go setting up your planer? I replaced the securing pins with a 300mm rod that goes all the way through the planer. I didn't like the two pins that are conical shaped at the ends. The rod stops the planer from moving 1. up and down, 2. towards or away from the table, and 3. to some degree stops it swinging away from the table as well.

Can't say I've had too much trouble with the setting up. Like all Triton set-ups it is on the fiddly side the first time. However, since then it hasn't been a drama. That said, the idea of a rod (or long bolt) right through that the planer itself can engage on to minimise plamovement has real merit....might try that.

300mm rod with the same thread as the thread on the original pins so it threads through the black plastic pieces. Then get 6 nuts and 4 washers, there are 2 screws that prevent you from using 6 washers in total, the nuts do fit however.

The TP720 is now in stock. Retails for around $199. Available through special orders in Bunnings and other hardware retailers. Most stores wont have stock but have to order in.

So dare I ask the question....

Does this mean my dust collecting Triton Planer Attachment will be easier to setup and use with this new Triton Planer?

    Cheers

I'm with Spartan, (on the topic of thicknessers here)to use a thicknesser you need a jointer first?

    Wayne,
What sort of planer do you have? If you have a planer that has a hole all the way through the front shoe, some of these are Makitas, DeWalts, Maktec, dare I say it XU1. If you have one of these buy your self a 300mm threaded rod with the same thread as the original pins. With this get 6 nuts and 4 washers. Then get back to me.

    Hi George,

I had one of those brands we would not talk about on this forum (it was given to me) and well it didn't even start, had it replaced, same again. So threw it out. (BTW it was not a GMC). So, I am in the market for one and at $199 this sounds like it might just fit the bill.

Thanks Derek for the original post.

    Cheers
    Wayne
