TPT15 Moulding Knives
I have bought a Triton thicknesser / moulder (Finally got it after seeing it at teh WWWS in Sydney in 2006) Anyway does anyone know where i can purchase suitable moulding knives for it. I would prefer a Sydney based company and i'm after picture framing profiles initially
Can any one help? This is my first post

Welcome to the forum Dave-Ben.
I would assume, rightly or wrongly, that Triton can supply suitable moulding knives for this machine. If not, and would want to know why not, then perhaps Carbatec can help, they sell a similar machine and list moulding knives for it in their catalog.
So first off, I would ring Triton and ask the question.
Perhaps Stuart is better placed to answer this question, he has done a review on video of this machine and blades, here.

I may have to ring carabtec.

Triton have about 30 in their range, but I'm not sure at this stage if they have sorted out if they will be actually stocking them, and how that will all proceed if they do.
At this stage the best answer is Carbatec, but I'm sure there must be other suppliers of spindle moulder blades that will also fit. There is a range of thicknesses that can be used, depending on what combination of spacers you use (supplied with the thicknesser).
I've posted some photos of some of the planer blades on my blog (as Big Shed has kindly linked to) (www.stusshed.com) and will be finishing off a video on the 15" thicknesser in the next couple of weeks. I'm probably splitting the video into 2 - one on the thicknesser functions and one on the moulder functions, including changing the blades.
They will be available on my blog, and will also be listed on here in the video section as soon as they are available for download.
If you have any other questions on this machine, ask away, as I've put through a bit of material through this machine now, and am getting to know it idiosyncrasies.
(PS, Professional Woodworker Supplies has kindly given me a Wixey Digital Planer Height Gauge to try out on the Triton, so there will be a video about that shortly as well)"Clear, Ease Springs"

Stu
I've looked at your site - and will have to study it in more depth. Currently the Carbatec iste has about 20 different profiles. - None that i am looking for.
I've tried google to find moulding knives, spindle moulding knives or baldes but not having much success. I would like to see more profiles hence why i was hoping for a Sydney based company. It's a shame that you say Trion have over 30 different profiles, and when I spoke to George Heggie of Triton- when i was getting teh machine - he indicated that there were other blade, but when i rang yesterday after "Big Sheds" advice - they claim they have none.
Can you guide to to other balde suppliers that i can contavt??

D-B, any chance of you posting a pic (sketch or sim) of the sort of profile (including an indication of dimensions) you are looking for?
From that, if Triton have a corresponding profile, I'll be able to tell you what the part number is, and then as gmcchina has pointed out, it should be orderable.
Not sure who you spoke to at Triton/GMC by phone, there are only a few on the call centre who really know Triton and availability.
You can always drop Gordon an email - his address is listed on the Triton website."Clear, Ease Springs"

Must have been removed in one of the recent site upgrades - they used to have a link if you wanted to be a demonstrator.
This address will get through to him [email protected]
As to blade size - that is the size of the actual blades, but we were referring to the range of sizes of the moulding blades, which vary significantly in all 3 dimensions."Clear, Ease Springs"

I contacted triton - and was promised some profile info - but 2 months on - still no info - it's a bit disheartening when things aren't provided - especially when ou want to spend money

Some recent upheavals, including significant issues with Bunnings probably have taken their attention away from a product which it seems is still uncertain if it will ever become a product line.
I've placed a few photos of some of the range of profiles on Stu's Shed.
I was also in Carbatec the other day, and they had a whole box of different profiles that would fit the Triton. Check their latest catalogue - there is a stack of profiles shown in there.
Update: the box I saw in Carbatec I think are discontinued stock. The ones in their 2008 catalogue are unsuitable for the Triton (see the posts coming up!)"Clear, Ease Springs"

Most professional saw sharpeners / saw service people can fabricate a set for you from a blank (given details of your required profile etc etc).
Contact any Carba-Tec store, and they can point you in the right direction. They may be able to modify a set that are close to what you are after. The Carba-Tec blades (any that start with CV-xxxxxx) should fit straight on. You will need to get your hands on a 2006 Carba-Tec cataloge to see the profiles though.
