    Default Triton Desk

I got a phone call from my in laws, the neighbors had put an orange metal bench (in pretty rough condition) out on the hard rubbish, and wanted to know if I could use it in the shed.
I said grab it for me, the worst case I chuck it in the metal recycling at work.

I drove down to pick it up, it was a MkIII table and stand in pretty rusty condition, with no accessories, but it was structurally there. I took it home and let it sit in the garage to stew on what to do with it. I already have a WC2000 with sliding extension table, and a seperate 2000 router table. I just couldn't justify the extra space it would take in the garage, and the amount of hours to get it in good working condition.

My son had been asking for a desk in his room to "study" on, could I rescue and reuse the MkIII as a desk? Luckily when I ask SWMBO, the "modern industrial" look is in, so she was all for it.
I didn't take a good before picture, just some reference photos while I tore it down, but here is a sample of what it looked like.

Luckily at work I have access to powder coating, so I asked the metal shop if they could strip it back and re-coat it for me. I got it done in a textured black finish.

Now, how to make it into a desk. I made a new top (roughly the same size as the table top) out of ply recovered from a pallet, and a shelf to go underneath (we considered draws, but as the top extends out, you would have limited access to the draw).

The stand was just spray painted, and I painted the power socket and stop pad a bright red.

I threaded a couple of holes in the back side aluminium extrusion, and mounted the original table top as a magnetic back board (fully adjustable thanks to the fence mounting holes).

I managed to get a pair of old bar stools really cheap off eBay, you need stools for the height of the WC.

    I think he likes it.
