Triton MOF001 repair
I purchased an RTA300 with an MOF0001 with all the attachments and the template collars and every add-on for this table few years ago. It was working great then I got busy in my business and had to keep my shop unused. I am now ready to start using the my workshop again and my MOF001 no longer moves up and down using the hand crank in the table. When I remove it and engage the plunge mechanism it does work but it is fiddly and the grip release is very sticky. I looked at taking it apart and but did not want to break anything. I have been trying to find someplace that repairs these units and have not had any luck. Does anyone know someplace in Australia that will repair a Triton MOF001?
As always I am grateful for any feedback!
Thanks!

After further review I have figured out what is wrong with the router. I found a disassembly guide here. Taking the unit apart everything looked fine. I took the adjuster apart and notice the plastic worm gear had two flat sports on the actual gear. Eureka moment! I then located the replacement part and go figure it now made of metal instead of plastic. Since it meshes with a metal gear that makes sense. Long story short I purchase the replacement parts for $50AUD including shipping from the UK. If you are having problem with M0F001 moving with the fine adjustment it could be this. Sorry for the long winded explanation.
Later!

Symptom or cause? The two things that contribute most to Triton's having elevating difficulties when mounted in a table are that the return (elevating) spring has not been removed, but is supplying a downward force that the winder mechanism has to overcome to raise the router, overloading the winder, and if used for a while in a table, dust can get into the non winder guide tube and compact there, again overloading the winder mechanism.
You say you dismantled the unit and replaced the plastic worm with the later metal one, but did you also strip the unit down and ensure that there is no dust compacting in the guide tubes and jamming the works, as I suggested above the damaged gear could be the cause of your problem or it could be subsequent damage from something jamming.I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.

Thanks for the reply. The spring being in place is not the issue. When I took the unit apart I realized the spring was not in place and thought that could be the issue. As you have pointed out the spring should not be in place when the unit is used with the RTA300. I am pretty sure the pervious owner only used this router in this position and the spring has been removed for quite some time. I feel pretty confident that the plastic worm gear that mates with the metal drive gear is the issue. There is a reason that the part is no longer plastic. I think this failure is/was pretty common.
I did clean the unit while I had it apart. I have to admit it was pretty clean when I opened it. I found the cloth cleaning rings around the opening were pretty caked and did my best to free that up and vacuum it away. Other than that I used a clean dry rag to clean the shaft openings. I think when I get the new part it will solve this issue and I will have a working router table ready for the my next project, creating rabbits for a whole bunch of drawers I am build for shop storage.
Thanks for the insight!

After finally getting the spares for my router. I can inform anyone who has a MOF001 if you have issue with the fine adjust not moving the router up or down look at replacing the work gear (Part Num TRA-378). I can report my router is now working fine even with the elevating spring in place as well (however I have removed it since the unit will be used only for the router table). The replacement part took over 3 months to get here, but after replacing the part the unit works as expected. Thanks to everyone who shared their wisdom!

so the $24000. question is, how likely is this to break?
What did it cost to buy & postage?
Is it worth buying one and keeping in store for a rainy day? imagine 3 months without a bench routerI would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

The worm is only used for the fine adjustment so it doesn't leave you without a router totally.
I am just wondering if users who have stripped worm gears are trying to adjust with the fine adjuster without releasing the lock lever. Under normal circumstances there shouldn't be a lot of load on the worm and adjustments must be done with the lock off as this lever locks the router body to the guide post to prevent movement.Dallas

The fine adjust has a friction clutch mechanism that should slip if you try to use the fine adjustment with the router locked or if it is at the end of its travel. I have seen a warning regarding over tightening the fine adjustment knob screw as it will lock the friction clutch.
Courtesy of Ray Girling:
- When replacing the fine adjustment control do not fully tighten the screw in the centre of the black knob. This screw adjusts the torque at which the friction clutch releases. Set it to be as loose as possible consistent with proper operation of the knob. This protects the gears from damage if the router is unable to move up or down
(Thanks to Bob Barrett for this point).

The big take away from this is they changed the part from the original. The part the failed was white plastic. The replacement part is metal. I do not think the new part will wear out any time soon. If you have an older mof001 it might make since to replace. This part and the replacement mainspring cost me around $50 dollars including shipping. Took a while to get though.

great service - from UK
Same here...
"Some of you may recall that I was complaining about my TRA001.
The speed control did not seem to be operating properly.
It finally go to the stage that it would not turn on at all.
I finally bit the bullet and bought a new controller from Tritontools.uk.
Triton Precision Router TRA001, TRB001 Spares Price List
Was easy to install and powered up first go.
Now that I have retired (again) hope to get some use in 2021.
Not associated with Triton tools in any way, just want to suggest a source of parts for Triton if you need any."
Mine took about 10 days to arrive from UK...James,
