Triton news from horses mouth
Today I spent a couple of hours at the Perth Wood Show and while drifting around looking over the various stands and including the stand on Triton spare parts, I heard the latest news on Triton and the manufacture of their gear. This news I can vouch for as it came direct from the horses mouth .
The news is Triton gear except for the "electrical gear" is currently being manufactured in Australia in the Melbourne manufacturing plant that has the tooling, the snag is it is solely being made, exported and shipped to the overseas market, ie UK , Japan etc. Untill the "Powers That Be" can come to a suitable arrangement with Australian Distributors it will not be supplied to the Australian Market, if no suitable arrangement is made it is I understand being considered to be sold and marketed " ON Line"
I guess it is now a matter of waiting for a outcome for all you Triton enthusiast.
Cheers
Mac.

At the Perth woodshow, I ran into Ricahrd Vaughan (www.richardvaughan.com.au) who confirmed that Triton has re-commenced production but in Taiwan.

Hi there,
Yes it was me at the Woodshow, I dont think I will list the spares individually on Ebay as there is far too many to do so. I would like get my own website going as I am paying too much to Ebay and Paypal for selling the goods. I am working on spare parts queries this week in my spare time so will be getting the ball rolling there.
Thanks,Eagle
I am not young enough to know everything.

triton news
Dropped into Bunnies today looking for triton mk3 locking keys.
No luck, but the guy in the tool department said rumour is that Bosch are looking at buying triton
Hopefully Eagle might have some. Just bought my third mk3, so I can have planer, saw and router all mounted permanently on their own tables.
cheers, billy

Our prayers have been answered.......
The latest intelligence is that GCI in Melbourne have already started production of most of the original TRITON gear (..... it should be appearing in stores in the next few weeks....)
And it WILL all be manufactured in Australia....
And parts will be included for those desperate to repair their gear
The Triton range including the Work Centres, Power Saw Tables, Router tables, Finger Jointers, accessories and spares.................
Just waiting to hear which stores will take up the retail - Can't wait!</O>"May your dreams of today

From a UK Woodworking Business
6th July 2009 - Good news about Triton!
Great news!!
Triton Superjaws and Multi-stands are now being manufactured again.
The first consignment is nearly here and so stock will shortly be available. As we anticipate the first delivery will run out because of demand, we suggest anyone wanting Superjaws or Multi-stand should order with us as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

I'm hoping the 1000W router will still have a chance of hitting the market!
DCI are manufacturing, with the first shipment heading overseas, and the intention that the one following will be for the Oz market.
Distribution methods still to be confirmed, unlikely to be Bunnings I imagine. Possibly web?"Clear, Ease Springs"

Well, if you read the speculation on the links in this thread, sounds like the reason they are not manufacturing for Oz market is they have no distributors.
This gives them the freedom to sell through the web without worrying about p!ssing off their existing distributors.
However, since Triton is no longer tied to GMC, it is not impossible that Triton (including the power tool range) will return to Bunnings and the like.
It will totally depend on which channel will be most profitable. A "major" power tool company selling exclusively through the web is a risky experiment.
The good news is that (it sounds like) the OS markets are strong enough to sustain Triton without them needing to sell anything in Australia. In which case the business case for web may make sense.

Hi John,
I've been getting my info closer to the source than the speculation here, or info flowing back from overseas websites. What I can talk about is here, and on my website.
Unfortunately because I choose to honour requests to not openly discuss everything I've been told off the record as it was, it is not always the latest gossip, but as others reveal it, I feel free to add in what I do know.
As to your last point - I agree that the OS markets are so much bigger so that Australia can be safely avoided, or doesn't need a really active sales model. This is unfortunately the way many companies see Australia, which is why we can't get many items from local distributers and have to import directly. Near the end I was getting the feeling that even GMC was seeing Australia in that light. The danger in that is we can find ourselves not being able to buy our own local product - especially if demand outstrips supply. Then the company supports its most profitable market by supplying them first, to the detriment of the smaller one (and that happens to be us).
The food industry is a classic example, where a lot of the best product doesn't make the local shelves because they can get many times more return by shipping it to Japan and the like, rather than supplying locally. They get the quality and supply, we get the dregs and surplus.
Now this may not happen here with Triton, but it always concerns me.
What did happen in Australia? Why don't we have supply chains still in place, when so much work was going into creating and supporting the overseas ones? When it did break, why wasn't it a priority to fix the local market first? (yes, I do have strong opinions about what broke the Aust dist, but why wasn't it a priority to fix it). The answer as I see it is money - there is more overseas, and it is easier setting up supply throughout Europe, North America, Japan, South Africa, than to fix the small local market."Clear, Ease Springs"
