    Default Triton Owners may rejoice

In the trade, rumor has it that either Bosch Power Tools (offer not yet accepted by the GMC administrator) or new player in the field (Positec) will soon have announcements regarding Triton and the way forward.

    Dear AcceptU,

Just for the record, Positec have actually been around for a while, but rather as an importer and re-badger of "generic" power-tools. For example, my trusty old 10" "PowerMasterPlus" Mitre Saw (cloned off a Makita LS1040 no less..) was a Positec import. These days they are doing both "Worx" (sold at Home Hardware), and "Rockwell" (sold at Mitre10 and a slightly different series at Supercheap).

When I was trying to sniff-out a little bit of info about them a couple of months back in order to source a replacement switch for the Mitre Saw, I couldn't quite work out whether they've now got their own Asian factories or not - but it sounded like they possibly might have. Either way, they are a pretty-big international setup...

I can't really see where Triton would fit in for Bosch, except for the acquisition of some design patents that would suddenly start popping-up in Bosch tools - most notably a Router, and quite possibly a Plunge Drill of some sort. At least in the short term, though, both the 1400w and the 2400w Routers would probably pop-up in exactly the same design, except for blue-coloured plastic. Other than that, I reckon Bosch would spell the end for the rest of Triton. I mean, they already do their own portable Table Saw - the GTS10 - and virtually all of the rest of the Triton machinery is just rebadged gear itself.

I think that Positec could be a much better proposition for survival of the brand, because they're already doing what GMC was doing before it bought Triton - ie. importing and rebadging generic power tools. Bosch would never come into that...

    Best Wishes,
    Batpig.

For me, it was never a matter of if.

Just when, who, how well, and how soon.

More likely a question of how badly rather than how well...

I'm posting about Triton and NOT GMC.

I never liked GMC taking over Triton.
Although I did like what GMC was doing with the GMC line.

GMC buying Triton was very smart.
Too bad they had to go into receivership.

Can't wait for them to be seperated.

I wish this BB would seperate them into two forums as well.
    Thanks,

Default Gmc 45 second recharge screwdriver

    GMC 45 SECOND RECHARGE SCREWDRIVER
I just got one of these todayI had heard about them, and didnt know GMC actually made any for Australia.
I really didn't get it to use.I got it for the novalty value. The charger is fairly heavy unit and the driver is about the same size as the Triton Li-Ion one
I havent taken it out of the packet yet. They don't come in one of those black plastic cases ,just impulse packaging, which is a bit upsetting The cell type is a Capacitor.
45 second charge. It is hard to believe.

    Default Positec

Positec is an Australian business extension of a Chinese owned manufacturing company. The Australian [operators] are basically in servitude to the Home company and ALL stock positions are either forward ordered by Australian retailers or rebranded models specific to corporate enities and thier forward orders. I deal in most brands of power tool every day but see only limited semblance of the Positec models (however rebranded) and any GMC product. I believe this is a brand that will be somewhat limited initally in exposure due to the tyranny of distance of the decision makers but never the less is peformaning way above it's price range at this juncture. I agree that there will be a replacement copy range of "Triton" products if the Administrator of GMC pushes too many wrong butons.
Positec needs to get it's representation in order (QUICKLY) , a change of attitude concerning spare parts availability (Currently practically zero) and a less cumbersome warranty procedure. But also retailers need lessons in representing the product as it correctly is. A HOME HANDYMANS tool. The products are not branded as Pro tools and the steep path of learning at GMC should be lessons learnt and understood.
In essence YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR>
