Bargain At Bunnings
Picked up a Multi Stand for $55 at Bunnings - Oxley....couldn't resist at that price...it was a display unit and was a bit dusty but every thing was in working order. I didn't have to assemble it or discard the cardbourd packaging.....have 2 already but can always use another

Anyone know if the mulit stands are supose to be rock solid when extended to their full height?...I have 2 I tried using as a bench today and they keep dropping down if I put too much weight on them...mainly me. There is no tightening adjustment left.
And it's your fault I bought them skot, I read your post and thought Id have a squiz at my local Bunnies... as I have wanted a couple for a long time....no cheaper but they do just keep going up in price, so thought bugger it and just grabbed a pair....with wifes ok of course

I don't stand on them, but they are ok to make a bench to work on...I've never had any problems with slippage...on either this one or the two old ones

Trying to stay away from bunnings lately, waiting 40 minutes to have a length of hardwood cut in half. When I'm the only customer in the lumber yard is beyond a pain.

Max, do you find bunnies (when you get service) to be cheaper for timber than say other yards???? I go past Chatswood Timber daily and often wonder about comparing prices. But CT won't have the volume or turnover.

I haven't found Bunnings to be cheap (price wise)...Convenient on a Sunday afternoon when you are short one piece of timber...but not cheap.
I buy all my timber at a local yard as long as i'm organised. I have just completed a big renovation of my kitchen and I priced melamine sheeting
Bunnings $62 per sheet
AAA Timbers $50 per sheet
As I have used about 25 sheets of 1200x2400, thats a good saving of $300
Even with the Multi Stand I got the other day.....$55 which is excellent even for display stock but Bunnings normal price is $105 while the local Mitre 10 was $86

Max Ripper My thoughts on my local bunnnings store are my own, you may have the pleasure of not experiencing any of these problems.

I first started going to a timber yard for lengths of 3" bull nose architrave at about $8/lm (other timber sizes too). No where to check the straightness of the timber (usually check on level concrete floor) and I ended up with some absolute crap which now lives in garage roof till I find a use for it.
Then I found Bunnies sold it for about $6/lm which reduced to a bit over $4 but again this stuff was crap always warped along the thickest line so you have to pull the timber sideways. Again not easy to check the timber as its on the top rack (up the scaffold stairs).
Couple of weeks ago I went into Blacktown Building Supplies (Mitre 10) as Bunnies didn't have a single piece of bull nose - hope they threw all the rubbish stuff out. BBS had a stack of the stuff at $3.21 /lm and most of it is straight - the floor in front of the timber is concrete and level/smooth - oh happy days
Better yet there are staff at BBS who actually come up to you and ask if you need a hand and even seem to know what they are talking about. I actually had one of the BBS lumber yard guys carry the timber to the back dock for pick up for me without asking. This company really deserves praise
I won't be going back to Bunnies for timber and I still have to use the Timber yard for special or uncommon sizes. BBS is about 20 min from my place where as Bunnies is 5 minutes but worth the trip for timber. Most of their general hardware is much more expensive. (Bostik Ultraset was $22 per sausage  paid $8 at Embeltons)
Best advice ring around and get prices but don't necessarily believe the cheapest is best - it just worked out that way this time.______________
