    Default Triton Plunge Drill

    Hi Guys,

Just noticed that they have started selling off the discontinued plunge drill in the UK. It is going for £70 a go (Abt AU$154) down from £200 (AU$440). This compares with the price of a mid-range 18v drill down from the price bracket of a lower end DeWALT.

Is this a bargin or best avoided old stock?

With reference to the batteries there is a brief mention in an earlier post of changing the cells in cordless tool battery packs - can this be done?

    Regards

    Sam

    Hi Sam,

I bought one of the runout ones here, last year. I certainly don't regret the buy, as the drill is brilliant. My main reason for purchase was the plunge, and that has allowed me do precise drilling on sheets too large for the bench drill.

I'm currently building a cnc router, and the plunge drill has been my main tool. One 'downside' to the drill though, is that it is quite heavy. You definitely wont be drilling at arms reach.

I have the drill and it is a great drill. Very versatile with the plunge mechanism. A little on the heavy side, but is a solid build. The batteries did not last long, but I was told that the later batteries were much better. I got one of the first drills when they came out.

I have one of these, it's great. I bought it as I don't have a bench drill and the plunge lets me drill straight holes.

The battery pack for the Triton is held together with screws, not glued or welded like most others. This should make it relatively easy to repack the batteries when they die - they all die eventually, but the welded packs want you to buy a new pack rather than replace the cells.

I found the drill to be great but the charger was less than efficient & kept failing to correctly charge the battery - I am in the process of fitting an after market over ride for the charger.

Thanks for the heads up Sam. I have just ordered one from Triton Tools. All others are still asking £170.
