    Default Triton respirator.

    The 5 x 2v batteries in my respirator blower have finally reached the end of their life, charges will no longer hold. Have tried to find replacement but can only find some in smaller sizes at Jaycar, and I doubt if they would have the capacity for long periods of use. Has anyone done modifications to allow for say a 9v rechargable or similar to be externally fixed to the blower unit or any other Heath Robinson idea to extend the life of the unit. It has been a great investment but I fear parts are not being made available by the born again Triton.

    The batteries are 1.2 volt giving you 6 volts.The charger is 9 volt. any battery place should have some you may have to solder leads on to them.
    Mine got to the stage were thy would go flat over night after replacing them I can leave it for months and still have it running when I need it. Talk to the people in the shop and get the best you can afford the originals were chosen to keep the price down.

    Default No Batteries Needed.

    Hi Ross,
    Many yrs. ago we had a chap in our wood club, & he was a bit of a Leccie Whiz.
    He found one of the 240/12V Transformers that plug into the Powerpoint & hooked up a lead, that had a Flouro Light Connection, that if he wanted to walk away from his Lathe, he would just unhook the lead.
    Might take a bit of looking into, but he made them up for at least 6 Woodies.
    He sold them of course, but for a very reasonable charge .

    Thanks for all the replies, particularly the link to rig up the lead - acid gel battery. I will persue that avenue.

    Must learn to use the search function of this site, don't have any luck with it.

    I think you should look into having the battery pack repacked at Battery World. They have a very good Samsung cell as a replacement. You might find that this will return it to as new and you will keep the mobility of battery power.

    The Respirator was always compromised by the quality of the batteries which came as standard. To try and get the Powered Respirator to market at a retail price of under $300 meant that the combination of battery/charger/motor was less than ideal although it did perform to any relevant standards.

    A more powerful motor would have meant a bigger battery pack and more sofisticated charger. This would have increased the price by over 50% to a level which would have killed sales.

    Prototypes of the second generation of Respirator which never got to market had a completely different power pack, air pump and filter system (which was similar to a car air filter). The price would probably have been closer to $500.
