Triton Router Availability Australia & New Zealand
This is going to be my very first post to the Woodwork Forums, and when I registered I did not know that a Triton sub forum existed. It happens to be of great interest to me as I have had a TRA001 on back order since November last year. I'm in New Zealand, and our Triton router dealer is Carbatec who list the TRA001b (I don't know what the 'b' signifies) for NZ$629 (AU$580). Carbatec tell me that they would order 500 if they could get them. Most UK Triton dealers (the UK is 240V) also say no stock, and I am reluctant to trust the one or two that say they do have stock.
We have a TRA001 at the Blenheim Menz Shed, and we had a MOF001 in a Kreg table donated to us which we donated on to a new Shed being formed in Cromwell, Central Otago. They seem like a total no brainer for table mounting, with them not needing a lift, and TRA001 has plenty of power. I love using them, and have set my heart on one. Plus I don't particularly want to pay for a lift and suitable router or spindle motor.
So I'm wondering what the heck is going on with 230-240 volt Triton routers? Do you guys know of specific problems? Do they tool up for batch production for instance? Are they relocating? There does not seem to be a problem with 110V versions.
TIA

Welcome to the forum. Beautiful area Blenheim.
In Australia we currently don't have a distributor so therefore don't have access to new machines, so you are not alone. I understand that Carbatec will become the distributor again in the near future so that may be why it is taking so long for your machine to arrive.
I agree with your thoughts about the Triton being ideal for mounting in a table with their economical way of raising and lowering compared to the cost of a proper router lift. Some people do have problems with their machines and others don't which is a real shame as they are a well designed machine except for some reliability problems.
I have the MOF which after an initial speed control problem has been very reliable and gets used very regularly. The only downfall I find is that it is fairly noisy compared to a Bosch unit I have, but earmuffs fix that.Dallas

I would love to understand the reason for this unavailability. I placed an order from Amazon UK for a Triton TRA001 a month ago when they had 5 in stock! Two weeks later I call Amazon because nothing was charged, or shipped. They said that they are out of stock. Now I can’t find them anywhere and Amazon removed them from their website. Found some on eBay and they are asking double the price.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Finding such a big resource so near to NZ and a county that has the same grid voltage was solid gold. There must be an incredible amount of information and experience among the membership here. Like Issa, I thought about ordering from the UK because they are 240v but I didn't believe they had stock. I've read of some reliability issues with the Triton routers so they might have stopped production while they address those issues.
At the moment I am having doubts that we'll ever see the TRA001, so I have been looking at alternatives. A JessEm Rout-R-Lift is US$205 and the Kreg PRS5000 is US$299. But even that runs into a dead end because I can't find a 3.5" router with 1/2" collet and reasonable power, and most crucial of all, 240 volts! I'd take that route if I could find a 240V DeWalt 618 or Bosch 1618. Do you have such a motor in Australia?

apart from local distributor issues I suspect the real problem is related to supply/manufacturing issues out of China. Triton tools is now a UK company and I recall being told by a former Australian distributor that minimum 500 units per product were required even to have them supplied with the Aussie plug which is quite different to the UK plug. I am a big fan of the Triton routers and have 5 of the smaller ones set up in a table specific for box making. After 7 years of heavy use no issues but did have new bearings fitted last December as a precaution which did improve the noise.
I also have a TRA-001 table mounted for larger applications and find it works just fine even at a much lower speed setting.
Cheers,
Paintman

For anyone who is still keen on getting their hands on the TRA001 Triton Router, Amazon UK have them in stock. Will ship free to AU if you are a prime member. Total cost circa AU$460 depending on exchange rates of the day.

Issa, Did you manage to purchase the TRA001 from UK Amazon? I'm in the same situation, looking for any chance to get this router from any European country because our local Carbatec still didn't get their order. After reading your post, I tried to check the item out on Amazon UK (that still seem to have it on stock) but unfortunately it's not available to be shipped to NZ.

Looks like Amazon.au have them in stock but it says they ship from the UK, so I don't know if that falls in the same bucket of not shipping to NZ.

I think I've tried the OZ Amazon previously but I double checked it again. Looks like the same rules apply here, no shipping to NZ. Apparently the only ways to get this router is to either wait for Carbatec NZ to get their long awaited shipment to arrive or by purchasing it second hand.

In answer to the question about 240v x 1/2" router bodies I found 2 that are stocked and should ship to NZ:
Sherwood/Timbecon - https://www.timbecon.com.au/sherwood...y-router-motor
and
AUKTools - Fixed Base Router V3 - 240V woodworksupplies.com.au
McJing used to sell one but I can't find it on their web site.

Forgot one more 'fixed base' router. Bunnings in Oz have the AEG 240v router kit (1/2 & 1/4) with fixed and plunge bases in a tool bag with some accessories. Not all stores have stock.
I also saw that someone in Victoria is selling a fairly heavily modified Triton TRA001 with Kreg plate for only $200 (He removed the power switch it seems).

Just had an email from Carbatec today and it states that they have been appointed as the exclusive distributor to Australia and New Zealand for Triton. At the moment they only have stock of the TRA001 Router and the Dust Bucket due to manufacturing delays but will have the full range as stock becomes available over the next few months.
