    Default Triton Routers

    Hi Team,
I need some advice on the two orange routers the 1400 and 2400, besides the power difference, what are the other differences if any. It'll mounted under a Triton table for most if not all the time, I'm not looking to big jobs at the moment, mostly boxes, drawers, shelvings and storage utilities andthe thickness will vary between 19-24mm timber. do they both come with the height winder / template kit as I believe the 2400 does but not to sure about the 1400.
    Thanks

    Jack

The 1400 (MOF001) was the first model to introduce the above-the-table height adjuster, which now seems to be available on the latest 2400 (TRA001) model in some countries. Other differences are:

Overall size of the TRA is larger, but the baseplate screws are identical, so both can use a common mounting in a router insert. Obviously, both will fit the RTA300 Triton Router Table, which is what they're designed for.

The original TRA featured a "push and twist" plunge mode lock in the right-hand handle. The MOF changed that to a "push once to engage, push again to release" button. This too is probably now featured in the latest TRA model.

The variable speed adjustment thumbwheel of the TRA is in an horizontal plane, the MOF is in a vertical plane. Whilst this makes no difference at all when using hand-held, both are almost impossible to read when inverted, so it's good practice to get used to the direction of the lowest speed setting before switching on when in a table.

The TRA weighs in at 6Kg (13.2 lbs.), the MOF is 1.3Kg (2.8 lbs.) less, at 4.7Kg (10.4 lbs.).

There is no substitute for raw power, especially in a table. However, if you're not planning to mill anything over 25mm, the MOF will probably suffice. Hand-held, the TRA can be a little "tippy" without the metal sub-base fitted as a stabiliser. This is not possible on, for example, a Leigh D4 Dovetail Jig - which is why I got the MOF in the first place, perfect for such an application (if you do use a Leigh, but have the new support rail/dust collector fitted, you can safely ignore my last comment!).

I've regularly cut 44mm kitchen counter tops with either router - the MOF just takes more passes than the TRA - commonsense, really - just don't bog the motor down through a too-high feed rate and you'll be fine. I wrote a comparative review a while back which might assist. If you get the time, it's here

Any other questions, fire away! HTH

Errrr....just curious, but where do you expect to buy one of these??

Are you looking at new, or have you found secondhand examples on eBay?

I've found the MOF001 to be fine for most table routing, and the above table height winding was great...until it broke

If I were you, I'd wait until future availability/support for Triton in Australia is clearer - I've emailed the contact address on the new Triton website to see if I can get any guidance from them on this. Hopefully this issue should be resolved before much longer.

If they are re-entering the market (under new ownership)....then fine, I'd say the MOF001 is one of the better routers for table mounting. However, if you can't get spares or accessories for the router locally I'd forget about it. This is one product where you really really want local warranty and service support !

I'm just one of many, many people out there currently stuck trying to get Triton parts....

I've contacted them last week and the response was
[email protected] and he is in 259 main Street Bairnsdale. not cheap and all on ebay which is ######## if you want over inflated price. Hopefully Triton comes back, I know that management is still operating but how long are we going to wait? Your point taken and thanks for the advice.

    G'day All,
Just received my new Triton 1400W MOF00IK today from the UK and I have managed to mount it under the Triton router table. I have been reading Ray’s review and advice regarding weight and versatility and I cannot wait to start using it. A quick mention of thanks to ALL that helped me with information and obtaining the mounting plates for the table.
There is one thing that I am not sure of that is the table winder or the above table height adjuster and I’ve been doing some searching on the topic. Ray in your review your pic shows the above-table height-adjusting mechanism in position also mentioned that in the “near future” you would drill the table inserts, I’m wondering whether that has been done? Any pics to look at? I’m just a bit reluctant to drill through the actual table itself and wondering whether anyone else has tried on a Triton table with success and maybe submit a few photos?
    Thanks
    Jack

Sorry to say, Jack, that I still haven't got round to doing it, but no worries, it's very simple providing you take your time and get the orientation correct.

Look at the insert plate and you'll see three slots in this orientation - ' -

It's vital that they are positioned in the table in that orientation, with the two slots towards the operator and the single slot towards the fence. The slots are used by the removeable clear air duct from the fence and also come into play with other accessories.

Fit the router to the plate using the two bolts and with the fine adjuster towards the operator when in the table - on/off switch on the left side. This means that the extra hole must be drilled in the 4 - 5o'clock quadrant in that orientation. Once you're absolutely happy that this is correct, turn the router/plate combination over and mark the dimple in the router baseplate through onto the underside of the insert.

Roughly complete the circle from your marked arc, remove the router and drill a small pilot hole through the centre of the circle from the underside. Turn the insert plate right side uppermost and drill a ½" hole through from the top. JOB DONE!

HTH Must pack my bag now!

Thanks Ray, still would like to see pics drilling through the actual Triton table top. I wouldn't hesitate if it was timber but metal table not to sure.
    Thanks

    Default My Triton Table Top

    G'day All,

I quite naturally assumed you were talking about the RTA300 table - sorry. However, as I don't have your model, pics from me are not possible. Advice stands, though. Hang the router with the on/off switch on the left (viewed from the front). Turn it over, mark dimple, complete circle with the router removed (use a ½" drill bit shaft), small pilot from below, main ½" hole from above. It's that simple.

Off to bed now and off to hospital in the morning, so nothing more from me for a few days.

    Ray.
