I couldn't resist. Will hopefully get some use after a short welding course I want to do at the local evening college.

Going to have to try and hide it from the misses though.

Default Alternative blades for steel cutter?

Thanks Stuart for the heads up. I have placed my order .

What other brand/types of blades would be suitable for the Triton Steel Cutter, other than the official Triton blade (SCA184)?

Would the steel cutter be able to handle stainless steel (square tube, pipe, flat bar) with the right type of blade?

    Cheers,

If you look at my previous post you'll see an ebay auction for a steel cutting blade that's the right size for the triton.

They are a standard item you just have to make sure you buy one with a 20 mm bore and 184 mm diameter. It's a standard 7 1/4" circular saw blade size but with teeth constructed for cutting steel. Any standard 7 1/4" blade with 20 mm bore will fit and as you should know there are a wide variety of blades for different work. If you are cutting steel make sure you don't use a wood or non ferrous blade.

So to recap, blade selection/availability won't be a problem. You don't need to use the triton blades.

As for stainless you might get away with teh standard blade but it'll wear faster. I don't know of a specific stainless blade, but if worse comes to worse you could probably find an abrasive disc of suitable dimensions.

    Dear Chaps,

Saw two steel cutters in a trolley at BigB Carseldine yesterday. I'm pretty sure one of them had a $150 sticker on it...

Stainless steel is much harder, and will give the blade something to think about.

Wish I was getting a cut on the sales now

Well, I looked at your profile after buying it on your recommendation and felt you did indeed have an interest, even if not a monetary one... But, as you said, for $152 delivered what could go wrong? Thanks for the advice.

Thanks Stu, I've had my eye on a steel cutter for a while - loved the look of the Triton but couldn't really justify the expense, was looking at the GMC instead - just snapped up a Triton for less than the GMC, win-win!

Just received mine. Went on E-bay to leave positive feedback and found that they are all gone already! Strictly for undemanding hobbyists like me, though, now that I have seen it. If I had spent more than 10 seconds thinking about it, I probably would have gone for a crude but more versatile abrasive disk cutter. I expect I will make only a couple of cuts a year anyway, and it looks good in my collection!
