Default Triton stuff at Grays Online

I note that Grays Online are flogging some Triton and GMC stuff. Some prices appear pretty good, whilst others appear to be hopeful. Freight costs will kill some deals, cold. Here's what I've short-listed for myself:

Triton 405mm Tilting Arm Scroll Saw
    GMC Rotary Pneumatic Hammer Drill
    GMC 900W belt sander
    GMC 2050W 1/2 Inch Router.
    GMC Rotary Pulse Laser Kit
    GMC Strike Allnailer

Any comments (positive or negative) on those specific tools will be most welcome. As usual, I'vbe left it to the last minute.

Since it is an auction site, I would be wondering why you would be telling everyone about this thereby increasing the likelihood that lots of other people will bid against you for this stuff. You will end up paying more because of this.

I thought that some of the bids were a bit silly given that no warranty is available on this stuff.

It's a sham auction site. The prices are silly in some cases, but, in the ones I've listed appear reasonable. Anyway, I'd rather miss out on buying something, rather than buying crap.

Being Left handed I was taken by the GMC 1800W Magnesium 184mm Left Handed Circular Saw with REDEYE - ORP $259.95 - Model: LHCS5000 currently sitting at $34.00.................... but I've now had a little rethink as freight was $83.00 to Margate, or $22.00 less if I have it delivered 22 km up the road in Hobart.

Now $39 and you have to pay another 15% buyers fee I think as well.
They want $40 to send to Geelong.I just got a quote from a place in perth to send 32kg to Geelong at $36.
    Anyone home?

Caveat Emptor guys. Wouldn't touch most of the stuff personally. Way overpriced for a lack of warranty, and no spares.

Also, some of the ORPs quoted (original retail price) are complete cr*p.

    $299 for the 184mm saw?
    $299 for the jigsaw?
    $349 for the 184mm saw?
    $399 for the 235mm saw?

Thought there were laws against such blatant attempts to misguide purchasers.
It really puts me off even looking at Grays if that sort of dishonest practice is permitted.

As I said at the start: Caveat Emptor

    @ Zaphod:

Regarding your short list (and I haven't looked at the pricing)

Triton 405mm Tilting Arm Scroll Saw
I did not like the one I had for a trial - no ability to put a reasonable amount of tension into the blade (non-adjustable) and the pre-set tension is poor. Noisy, and don't drop a blade when loading it - they disappear into the workings, never to be seen again! I sold that unit in preference for a cheap'n'nasty GMC ($40 retail) with a cast iron top and no variable speed that I still regard as a better machine.

    GMC Strike Allnailer
Interesting novelty, not actually any good at nailing anything. Not worth the space it takes up in the workshop.

The belt sander is probably fine (I have an old GMC one that is still working well), and the laser is probably pretty good, for the price. No idea about the drill.

Not a fan of the router - it is way too easy to have it turn on (if you happen to leave it plugged in) when changing router bits. Happened on the one I had, shattering the casing. Stupid location of the switch vs the shaft lock. Also has an exceptionally long unsupported shaft, which really isn't a good idea for a high speed, high load rotary device. And as to the microadjuster........

Anyway, sorry to be negative, but thought you might appreciate some genuine opinions.

Your comments are most welcome. As I already stated, I'd rather be told the bad news BEFORE I plonk any cash down. I'll save up for a decent router (though I do have a 30 year old (almost new) Makita. A friend, who used to make kitchens, informed me that the old Makitas (still on their price lists, I note) are highly desirable things. Of course, it's not a plunge model, but that can wait. I can hear a Bosch calling. And, I'll stick with my El Cheapo™ scroll saw a little longer. Blade changes are a PITA, but it works well otherwise.

    Thanks again.

Did you see the prices that some people paid, , for the Triton gear?? GMC was more reasonable but on somethings still abit rich for me.

For some items double the ORP when you include delivery and the auction fee 15%, and given that some of the ORP's were ridculous to start with, whoa Nelly hold the horse.

If anyone is interested I have a bridge that I would like to sell...
