Triton thicknessor or other?
Hi guys
I see that the Triton thicknessor is still not available so I'm considering other options. Here in South Africa there are the Elektra Beckams that are out of my price range and there's the Ryobi AP13 that can plane up to 318mm but today I was in the local DYI shop and they have on special a Woodster PT85 that looks like a combo jointer/thicknessor. Well at least that what it looks like. It's a bit small, capable of only 200mm width of thicknessing and 120mm high.
So it looks like you can joint as well as plane/thickness? Am I seeing this correctly or what? Is this just too mickey mouse or worth getting for the simple jointing and planing in the home workshop?
Or should I just wait for the Triton one? )Cheers

(ones - there are 2 coming - the bigger one with moulding knives and 16" capacity) We had the smaller (330mm) one on display at the show. They are getting closer...

I guess what I'm asking is whether or not the 200mm limitation for thicknessing suffice?

Hi Hilton
I would suggest that you need at least 300mm.
You can try and find out from Marc Ambler at Triton S A when the Triton Thicknesser will be available (021) 987 6071 but I think it will be fairly pricey.
I have the Ryobi AP13 and find it reasonable for DIY use but I find that my final cuts have to be very fine to eliminate snipe. If you decide on the Ryobi try Benoni Mica. They are always open to a bit of bargaining.
Cheers

Very roughly, the 330mm will be in the $700 range, and the 360mm will be around the $1100. These are real rough guesstimates - don't be surprised if I am well out.
