Thread: Triton TRA001

Thanks for the couple of PMs.
I have bitten the bullet and bought a new TRA001 from VEK tools.

Now I am trying to tinker with the old one until the new one arrives.
I thought I'd try to bypass the speed controller by swapping over the wires at the switch as I believe you can do.
So when I use rayintheuk info on how to pull apart the router I am stuck.
I get to the part where I am supposed to wind the body off the posts. But it doesn't unwind, reaches full height on the track and stops?!
Anyone help? What have I missed. It seemed so simple in the description/photos.. .

OK, thanks to rayintheuk, I got the machine apart. Swapped wires but no joy, machine is still dead.
Anyone have a wiring schematic for the TRA001 that I can use to fault find?
I'll pull the armature out and do a resistance check between windings.

Is it possible to cut out the speed controller altogether or does it need to stay in the machine?

So I got it apart, had an electrician check it out, and he has confirmed the speed controller.
But he will not bypass the controller, reckons it is not safe as it will be too powerful on start.
But that is no different to other routers I say, but he will not do it! Not happy Jan!!!

So, anyone know a good sparkie in the Medowie/Newcastle area that can bypass the controller? I tried the switching the brown wires at the switch as has been suggested here but no joy.

Or would it be cheaper to buy a controller from the UK?

My smaller MOF-001 has exactly the same problem - speed controller....

This seems to be the most common cause of death for Triton routers, but have never heard of it being an issue with any other brand. What did Triton get wrong and (more importantly) have they fixed the problem in current production TRA-001????

Love the features of the Triton routers, but am VERY wary of their reliability.

We never hear anything from Triton regarding this problem, they just deny it exists. I have one that has a faulty speed controller where it varies up and down when it feels like it, but at least still runs. Love the machine, but hate this problem.
Lyle, Carbatec and Kincrome used to sell the controller for about $70. Not sure if this is still the case.

Mine is doing the random speed variation during use, so not dead just yet.....

Makes life interesting - you never know what speed you're going to get, even varying during a cut.

$100?????? How complicated can a speed controller be?? There are probably only a couple of active components on a tiny PCB. I know I won't be buying another Triton router unless I can establish once and for all that the problem has been resolved. Of course, it only happens after a couple of years use when the thing is out of warranty
