Don't go the Triton redemption offer for $100 cash off however (unless you can convince them to leave the Mk3 with you), as you can get a lot more for it on Ebay, or a useful second table.
I've just set up a new one - I'm still impressed with it all. I'm sure a cast iron topped tablesaw is very cool, but the WC2000 is still doing a great job for me, and I still make good use of its portability.

Among other things I mentioned my frustration with current supposedly wireless laptop that has decided to not let me connect when I need it most. I was then informed of a glitch that has been found in the software where many Triton service e-mails were dissappearing into a black box draw. This draw has now been found and they are going through the (some, quite old) e-mails. Note that these guys are taking the work home as well to try and catch up.
Not sure if I am allowed to talk out of school, however like a tool issue, thought that the keen users would be interested to know that a problem has been identified, diagnosed and cured, with the residual symptoms now clearing up.

Great news Steve, now about the second part ...
Hi Steve,
That is great news. Triton service and support was second to none - It is great to hear a first hand account that the tradition is being continued. (And Malcolm's work is legendary)
Now if you can just fix the second of my wants, I'd have no excuse to not buy more Triton gear.
Regards and thanks,

They also want a margin that is sufficient to cover overheads and provide a profit.
Pretty simple really.
With the Triton product range, though I could easily add a checkout facility to the www.triton.co.jp web site, I never will. If I did, I would be competing with the retailers that sell, or more importantly place Triton in public.
No matter what Triton products are carried by the store, the customer product mix is always fairly similar. With Triton, this is because (Wearing my woodworker hat now) we tend to buy the tools that will do the task we need to do.
Many of the Triton product lines are not profitable for me, in themselves. It will take years to pay off the translations done on the compact bevel ripping guide. Hence if I treated Triton as a normal product, I would not carry it.
Triton is not normal though. It is because there are the options that the package of Triton is so appealing. Even if I lose money on the smaller turnover items, they make the larger items more useful and competitive in the market place.
Getting back on track,
If I offer product direct, any direct sales I make would be to keen woodworkers, at the expense of sales through the retailers.
To me, what I love about Triton is the way it enables beginners to work waaaay beyond what they thought their capabilities were. Hence I need to be in front of beginners.
Yes I fully agree that there is a place for internet sales, however in Japan I leave that to the internet retailers.
Spares is a different issue.
Spares are an essential service for Triton. In Japan, we have the spare parts lists and images as well as a fairly good troubleshooting guide on our web site. We encourage customers to contact us direct for spares, as no retailer will ever be expected to fully understand the complexities of the products they sell. Spares take up a great deal of time and resources. We do however provide retailers with a hard copy of the spares information.
Many spares we do not carry stock of, just open and pirate a new product. This can be done with Triton as the products come in kit form. Dismantiling a power saw to dig out a replacement jack shaft or armature is not a pretty sight.
Next problem with spares direct is the freight almost always costs more than the parts. This would not be a problem if users would accept that the post office charges. We get people complain about freight. Delivery of spares is cheaper when they accompany a stock order that is going to the same address. Sometimes this takes time.
Whoops, getting a bit long winded.
Love the product
Do what I can to promote it in Japan
Do what I can to provide the best service I can in Japan
Life has its limits though
Expect it is the same everywhere.

Just to clear things up with country of manufacture.
All Workcentres, Saw Tables, Router Tables, Extension Tables etc are made in Cheltenham Victoria and will continue to.
The Power Tools are manufactured overseas such as the Plunge Drill, Circ Saw, Jigsaw etc.
Yes it is an Australian owned company and fair to say a percentage is made here as well. However some is made o/s as well. Some is in Taiwan and some in China.
I can assure you all the same old Triton engineers are testing the products and quality assuring them as was the case in the past. These guys have and always will be passionate about Triton and this will continue to show in the product, its quality and its innovation.
Hope this clears it up.
