Default Triton TSP450 Oscillating Spindle Sandler.

I was looking to purchase this but I notice on ebay that the replacement sets of bobbin sanding sleeves can only be sourced outside of Aust. Can anyone tell me if these can be sourced locally within Australia and in a choice of grit types. Also has anyone else purchased this spindle sander. I am after some extra feedback and personal thoughts. I have already checked the internet and watched a couple of the podcast reviews available.

    regards; Stewie.

I dont know this as a fact but timberbits sells that model so they would also have the sleeves too you would think. I dont kmow anyone with that exact model because what ive observed is that people are buying that scheppach version from hares and forbes machinery warehouse online. Its a cheaper price and looks to be the exact same model as the triton except blue. If so hares and forbes sell the sanding sleeves so that may help you. The triton model is roughly $50 difference from memory.

I am looking at the triton model since its been introduced in Aus but have since been convinced the blue hares and forbes model should be my pick. Hope this helps

    Cheers

    Stewie,

    We meet again....

Have at look at this unit from Hare & Forbes:

    W843 | OS-58 Oscillating Vertical Bobbin Sander | machineryhouse.com.au

It's the Scheppach Oscillating Bobbin Sander. Appearance wise, I'd say that it might come out of the same factory as the Triton unit. I wouldn't recommend it for 40 hrs a week commercial use, but for a home woodworker, I think it would be OK. And, the sanding drums and other consumables are available in Australia from Hare & Forbes at a reasonable price.

    Regards,

    Roy

Thanks Roy. Quick calculation on the Scheppach purchase. $242.00 (gst included) + $32.20 (postage to my postcode). Total = $278.20

Triton Model: Total cost = $217.49 (ebay seller Qld) Free postage within Australia. Saving of $60.71

    Triton 230V 240V Oscillating Spindle Sander 3 5A TSPS450 | eBay

This seller is the same one I used to purchase the TRA001 router.

The Sheppach sanding bobbins are shown in imperial sizing. The Triton bobbin sizes on ebay are expressed in metric size but its look as though the seller has done an imperial/metric conversion to make it easier for those not used to imperial measurements.

    regards; Stewie.

Timberbits has freeshipping over $200 also. Very quick at dispatching orders. No affiliation with timberbits just a happy customer from past experiences.

Thanks for the info. I had not heard of Timberbits prior to you mentioning it.

I would imagine the price increase on the Scheppach is largely due to its recent popularity.

    Stewie,

I don't want to rain on your parade..... but, have looked closely at that Ebay advert for the Triton Sander and can see no information relating to the warranty on the item. If the Ebay shop purchased it wholesale from the Australian Triton Distributor/Importer, then you'll get full warranty support simply by contacting either the re-seller you bought from, or the Australian Distributor/Importer. However, if the Ebay shop purchases their stock overseas on the cheap, then the Australian Distributor/Importer will classify the item as a "gray market import" and will not be obliged under Australian consumer law to provide you with warranty support.

I bring this topic up because I got caught badly when I bought a Makita Saw off Ebay last year. When the Saw arrived it did not have an Australian power plug on it. So, I fitted a suitable plug. About five weeks in, the bearings in the saw started screaming when it ran, so I tried to claim warranty. The Ebay store initially told me to contact Makita Australia. Makita Australia said it was not an item that they had imported and therefore they weren't responsible for warranty. Back to the Ebay store, who gave me the name of a Makita dealer in Hong Kong who would provide warranty support, provided that I paid to have the item post to and from Hong Kong. So, I've learnt the hard way - I'm never buying power tools (or any other electrical applicance) from Ebay unless I can ascertain before buying that I will be able to get the full retail warranty from the Australian Distributor/Importer. As an aside - the Ebay dealer I bought from disappeared from Ebay about a month later.....

Buyer beware. My very strong recommendation - buy from a bricks and mortar Australian reseller. The Triton gear is available from a lot of places, but I think that the Timberbits.com deal ($218.00 inc GST with free postage in Australia) is a far safer deal.

I'm with delbs here. Almost exactly the same price as the ebay seller, same shipping cost and an actual shop front if a problem should arise.
The Sandpaper Man (forum sponsor) would probably have the sleeves. They are another good supplier.

Thanks Roy. Good information. The ebay seller I am dealing with offers the normal 12 month replacement warranty same as Hare & Forbes for the Scheppach Sander.

Will do. Went ahead and purchased the Triton Sander from the ebay seller. Free postage versus versus freight cost of 16kg for country Victoria buyers from Timberbits.
