    Default Universal 7 Day Hardware

I would like to give "Universal 7 Day Hardware PTY LTD" in Townsville a good rap. I live in Cairns (approx. 400km from Townsville) and have been looking for a Workcentre Height Winder Kit without much luck.
Bunnings staff advised me they were not allowed to sell these kits as they are for promotional purposes only. They were not even allowed to order me one. I rang Universal in Townsville and they could not be more helpfull. It arrived at my door the next day.

I thank them very much and I will do buisness with them again I am sure.

    Dave J.

I think what Bunnings really meant is that they were too lazy to get one for you. My Bunnings did a few years ago so I cant see why your branch refused. Bunnings I believe do have an arrangement with Triton (they sell a kit including workcentre, the height winder and wheels) but they should still be able to get one in for you ANYWAY.

    regards

    Again, why?

Bunnings may very well have SOME commercial arrangement with Triton and many other wholesalers.

If you are NOT happy with their service then TELL BUNNINGS, not us!

I am not nor have I ever been a Bunnings employee. The ONLY association I have had/have with Bunnings is as a customer.

Sure they DO have their dumb sales staff, they are not ALL qualified tradespeople, but some of them are also GOOD at their job. Just think how you would feel some days after talking to moronic customers all day. It's bound to get you down sometimes - give them a break. Bunnings customers are not all as good or as knowledgeable as most of us here on this forum.

This forum is here because WE are here. Why are WE here, because we are seeking advice from those that have "gone before" eg "Been There, Done That" (BTDT) or giving advice those that WE can help. There will always be newcomers - newbies - to this forum. Bunnings have a similar situation with their staff they will also have their newbies, those that haven't a clue about what YOU are talking about, and sometimes just don't even know where the stock is. BUT they too have to learn somehow!

BTW on occasion *I* have had a problem with staff at Bunnings and I have brought it to the attention of management. There has ALWAYS been a fast response from management and on one occasion a severe response to the staff member, so they are customer oriented.

I am sure that if they say they can't order an item, then that is the case. Why would they deliberately go out of their way to NOT sell something and subsequently coerce a customer to shop elsewhere.

I wanted Bunnings to stock a "professional" range of tools. ie to have a section in their tools dept that would cater for the more professional tradesperson, eg Festo, Metabo etc. After discussing the case with their local manager, it is not the market that Bunnings caters for. Bunning is mainly for the consumer.

Ok, I am stepping down from the soapbox now

BTW.2 I "found" the extra smilies
    Kind Regards

    Peter

Can ya say that again for me FixIt?

Dave, if you go to the Tool store in Bunnies & ask for Ron, he will help you I'm sure.
Ron has LOTS of Triton gear.

He can also put you in touch with the local woodworker group 'cos he is a member.

    Hay Guys,
I am not complaining about the staff at Bunning's in Cairns. They have always given me good service and been very helpful. In this case they simply were not allowed to help me. Even the woman in the special orders department was not able to get around the item being flagged as not for sale and not to be special ordered.

Bunning's are the only retailer of Triton products that I have found in Cairns and I am recommending to anyone who is looking for an alternative to give Universal a go their service was great.

On the one hand, I can see Bunnings' point - the Workcentre should never have been allowed out without the winder! It is the one accessory that really shouldn't be optional.
But then the deal should have been that they wouldn't sell the Workcentre without the winder rather than the other way around! After all, if they sell the product in a defective state, they should allow you to fix it up.
As the problem seems to be one relating to computers - I suspect some pimply-faced twit at HQ who doesn't know a roofing nail from a brad misunderstood what he was being told by GMC or by his superior about what the deal was, because, as an ordering restriction, it makes no sense to me.

BTW - Cliff, does Ron have a brother at Bunnies in Artarmon? I just wondered if there might be someone there who knows a bit more than me.
    Cheers

The height winder kits are what Bunnings call on "H" status which means the product is on hold and team members and Triton reps cannot order it. This product is available from Triton and can be ordered in. For them to say they are not allowed to order it is a lack of understanding on their behalf of their own status list. Bunnings special orders is specifically there to allow the consumer to order in something through Bunnings when Bunnings dont stock it. Its called complete customer service - one stop shopping so to speak.

frustrating to hear Bunnings staff turning away sales but great to see that a Triton Preferred Dealer picked up the sale. These guys are the best to deal with as they genuinely care about the sale and service.

Last time I was in our local Bunnings, the Triton Height Winder kit was available on the shelf.

Maybe our local people don't know what they are doing either, but I already knew that

BTW, doing a "special order" through Bunnings is equivalent to the Inquisitions water torture test.

It's not that much fun....more like trying to pick up a blob of mercury using a toothbrush, where every time you fail a 12' cockatoo craps on your head

    Hmmm...

Just in case this was not blatantly obvious I was not having a go at Bunnings, they do get a lot of my business, I was making the obvious point that they bundle the winder with the wc and that they should still be able to order one in.

If they are not willing to get one in thats another story, and as it has been suggested before most of us would raise this with the relevant staff member.

    End of comment.
