Default UPGRADING A TRITON MK3 TO WC 2000 (OR CLOSE)

I have a Triton Mk3 that I have so far not used as I am busy doing up my house to sell so I can retire and spend time on woodwork projects

Is it worthwhile purchasing some of the triton "extras" eg Router top etc to add to the Mk 3 or should I off load the Mk3 and buy a WS2000? I am planning on buying a TRITON MOF001 router, mainly for handheld work at this stage, and have a couple of decent saws one of which I could mount in the Mk3 but at this stage I don't know what else I might find lacking.

Alternatively I could start with the Mk3 and maybe buy/build a separate router table if I find the need.

Has anyone any experience with adding to the Mk3 that they can share. What additions should I consider if going down the upgrade route?

    Hi,
All the Triton router table tops to date can fit the Mk 3, they may need some screws and fittings which may be missing if you buy second hand.

I have a mk3 with a Makita saw and a stabiliser bracket, very happy with it. I sometimes wish I had an extension table.....but I don't have the room and taking it on and off all the time would probably irritate me some. I just get the green shed to break down big sheets to fit in the car and the triton does the rest. Also being inventive with a straight edge and some clamps for extra wide cuts. I used to swap the router table and saw table and did so for probably 10 years it was a pain. I finally spent some coin and bought the matching router table, that is what I should have done 10 years ago. However if I had the time over I would buy a kreg or similar router table as the triton have a few issues, workable, but issues all the same.
    cheers

I have a lot of Triton gear and still use most of it. I still use the WC2000 a lot even tough I have a cast-iron topped tablesaw, mainly for the extension table. Superjaws an multistands are in use all the time

Now the Triton Router table is definitely the runt of the orange litter. I used t find workarounds to cover for its inadequacies but as time went on and I improved and was asking more of the table than it could deliver, the ultimate workaround was to get rid of the table. The router itself and the the safety switch from the triton table both moved onto my new table.

For a beginner the triton router table is ok to get started with but it can only take you so far.

    Cheers

    Thanks guys.

It seems at this stage there is no real benefit in moving up to the 2000.

I will stick with the Mk 3 for now and buy the router top when the time comes and I need to use it in a table. Once I have had a chance to get a better idea of what is needed then I can decide whether to buy/ build something better if necessary. One of the attractions of the Triton is the ability to move everything out of the way when not in use. Maybe I need to swap the garage for my wifes workshop she is building for a ceramics studio

Hopefully one day my woodwork skills will mean I can get the necessary accuracy, which I guess is needed to build a router table, into my woodworking skills. I can't believe how there seem to be no night classes in woodwork anymore - once there seemed to be a class at every community education centre.

Maybe a Kiwi will pop up and invite me to watch him (her) use a router and dish out some practical advice

    Hi,
The latest Australian Woodsmith (#115) has plans for a very interesting router table.

I'll have to see if I can find a shop here that sells it. There seems to be a shortage of woodworking magazines in the shops I frequent.

I've had both the mk3 and 2000 systems with router tables. You could get the Triton 300 router table but as some have said it's not the best but will do the job. I would go for a self build as I have and use the woodsmith plans, it will be a better set up to learn on and in the end of little cost to you but your time.
