using a Mark 3 as a router table stand
I was doing the saving thing (again) for a router stand and router table, but I see some advantages in buying a pre-loved Mk 3 workcentre and fitting current router table.
I saw StuartLee's router stand mod to fit the maxi extension table for use when routing, and wondered if that effort could be avoided by fitting the router table to the Mk 3 which fits the maxi extension table without any mods.
Any comments?
This all works out I guess if you manage to pick up a second hand Mk 3 at a cheaper or same price as a router stand (about $160-$170 from memory).Geoffrey
I love work, it fasinates me, I could sit around and watch it all day.

Geoffery, there is no reason why this wouln't work. Both the extension table and the router table will fit the Mark 3. See the compatibility chart in the April issue, page 9, or the Triton Woodworking Club (Holmesglen Inc.) newsletter.

Ah ha, yes it seems like a way to go. One negative, only because my workshop is a converted garage (still with storage, pushbikes, clothesdryer and garden tools) is that the Mark 3 workcentre has a bigger footprint than the router stand.

Having bought a router table stand myself last week for $150, I woudn't have thought that converting a Mk 3 would be worth the cost - particularly with the bigger footprint.

Thank for the advice finchy. Is $150 about right for a router stand? Where's that at?
ThanksGeoffrey

If your resigned to the fact you only want the router stand, hack into your MK3 base and shorten it up to make the foot print smaller.
Alternatively make up new rails.
From memory the router table leaves a gaping big hole in the top when the normal table is removed.
