Default 12-20 Taps and Die for Stanley Hand Planes Threads. Hard To Find.

For those interested, I found a U..S. ebay supplier for Stanley 12 - 20 tap & dies. These are near impossible to find nowadays. He also sells new replacement Rosewood totes & front knobs for the different sized bench planes. He can also supply the 13/64 drill rod to make up new hold down stems.

I purchased the 12 - 20 tap today so you may need to send him a message on availability if this tap isn't as yet shown on his listing.

I was unable to copy & paste his site so the best way to track him is to go into ebay and click advanced search; on the left side of the screen you will see Find items. Select By Bidder; and type in nicobie .

Here are some details on some of the items he is selling.

    Regards; Stewie.

Custom made #12-20 die for making and repairing threads on Stanley planes. This die is used for the Stanley frog screws, small front tote hold down and the knob and tote studs. It comes with the die holder as shown. Regular #12 screws can be re-threaded or 13/64" drill rod can be used to make new knob and tote studs. These things are impossible to find.

    ......

If you wish to purchase a foot of 13/64" drill rod, Let me know. I can add $2.50/foot to your invoice for each one foot length you need. No extra shipping needed.

New #12-20 tap for making and repairing threads on Stanley planes. This tap is used for the Stanley frog screws, small front tote hold down and the knob and tote studs. These things are impossible to find. Made in the USA

This is a taper style tap but it can easily be changed to a bottoming style by carefully grinding off a couple of threads. If you ask, I'll do it for you before shipping.
    ......

I also sell the matching 12-20 die. Just check my other auctions.

Very nice unfinished Caribbean Rosewood tote that will fit all of the larger sized Stanley bench planes planes #4½, 5, 5½, 6, 7, and 8.

These are made from 5/4 stock, are fully shaped and sanded (to 100) and ready for the finish of your choice. I will include a piece of the rosewood so you can test your finish. In the first picture I wiped on a bit of lacquer thinner to show the nice color and figure if you use a clear top coat. The last pic shows a finished knob and tote of Caribbean rosewood on a refurbed #7

My favorite finish on these is linseed oil followed by either lacquer or shellac. Sand in between coats then a coat of paste wax to bring out the shine The second to last picture is of a Caribbean tote and Honduras knob finished with just a few coats of rattle can lacquer followed with a good paste wax. Check out my other listings if you want a Honduras rosewood knob. I also make knobs out of Caribbean rosewood that match these totes.

Very nice unfinished Rosewood knobs that will fit most every size and type of Stanley bench planes. This auction is for one knob.
These are fully shaped and sanded (to 120) and ready for the finish of your choice. My favorite finish for these is amber shellac followed by a paste wax. Deft rattle can satin lacquer works good too. If you like a darker finish just apply a bit of dark walnut or black stain or dye first. I always supply a sample in order to test the finish.
Just let me know which one you want when you pay so I'll know what type to ship (a note through PayPal works best).

I just clicked on the link you gave and went to his other items - the taps came up there.
I've looked at him before but ended up making a tote instead. What was the postage like? That's often a problem with US sites.
    Cheers,
    Jim

Hi Jim. Good to hear the link worked. Postal on the tap was US$6.55. That's not too bad.
