Default 2 man cross cut saw - where to Buy

call me crazy but i enjoy felling trees and using the resulting timber by using manual methods. No chainsaws no cicular saws no plainers. I have got to the point where a large (3.5 foot+) one man cross cut saw or medium 4.5' 2 man cross cut saw would be great. but where to buy in Aus (shipping from OS costs as much as the saw). And I would really like a new one if posible (lots of old ones but I don't think I could bring myself to use them - classics)

    any advise is apriciated

    Welcome to the forums jrckelley.

The Crosscut Saw Company in the US make saws http://www.crosscutsaw.com.

This bloke refurbishes and restores saws. http://www.jimscrosscutsaws.com/. I know what you said about using old saws but it's ok, these are from the 'ol US of A.

If you change your mind on an old one I have a one man Disston Keystone with both handles that I would like to find a new home. It is lightly rusted, and the main handle is cracked. I'm sure it would rate as a user that nobody would mind going back into service.

I'm with you, I like the ols saws enough to want to use them.

While I don't have a source apart from ebay for saws. this sitehttp://www.crosscut.info/ has two links that are great. the site links to two PDF downloadable files, one is "Saws that sing - a guide to using cross cut saws" and the other is a warren miller manual on sharpening.

Cool yeah, but you can't annoy the crap outta the neighbors with it like you can with a chainsaw!

Just kidding - keep us posted - I'd like to see what you come up with and anything you cut with it!

    Cheers

These folks in NZ are a little closer than the USA.

No idea what the saws are like though. Just came across their website while looking for axes.

Found this in the Quokka online, I don't know how much the things are worth but you may want to give it a thought.

Mind you I'm peed off about missing what turned out to be 6 old english woodsaws for $25
