Default 2 years in Woodworking - WIP

    G'day Mates,

Thanks to this forum, this will be my 2nd year as a hobbyist woodworker. I am very grateful to all of you for your willingness to share and advise.

I hope to share some pictures of my working area and workbench. My adventure into hand tools was due to my space constraint, I have 1/4 of a 2 car garage.

Here are some pictures of my just completed trestle workbench and my woodworking area.

The trestles workbench is inspired by Scott Landis' "The Workbench Book", particularly his section on "Japanese Beams and Trestles". The trestle is a close replica of Makoto Imai's workbench from the pictures here, Timber Framers Guild 2007 Western Conference: Makoto Imai's Demonstration - 2007/04/14.

The dog holes on the posts are for storing hold-downs, Veritas' Wonder Dogs and Surface clamps. There are 3 pictures with them in action.

I made a pair of low trestles as well. I used them when morticing, where I will sit on the work piece.

I have 3 worktops, 2 of which are 1.9m long and 1 at 1.6m long (the one with the dog holes). I have yet to complete the longer worktops, i.e. filling the cracks and drilling dog holes, but have been flatten and can be used. The tops are from a single piece of 6m Oregon I got cheap off ebay, about 310mm wide and 75mm thick.

To help move the tops around the garage, I have a drafting table on wheels. I got the table off the local recycle shop for $10. The table is adjustable height by a winding mechanism. When not in use, it tucks neatly between the trestles, below the worktops.

The last few pictures are my woodworking area, timber storage, a tool wall and shelves for more tools.

I know I'll be woodworking for many more years, thanks to the many inspiration from all of you.

    Cheers mates

    Gunn

The trestles look great, I could do with something like those, I use some of the folding steel horses (the good red Aussie ones) with a bench top dropped on but your trestles look greeat. I must get a few of those veritas hold downs too. I have a couple of bench dogs but need to splurg on the hold downs next. Nice work.

Cheers mates. Thanks for the kind words.

One trick I learned while drilling the dog holes is using a bicycle glove upside down to cushion the chin.

Most open finger bicycle gloves have a padded palm area with a mesh top. Use them upside down, I can apply pressure with my chin on the padded area without hurting my chin and hand.
