$3 ? Atkins crosscut note the wood filler and more holes in the plate than nuts. Nuts are brass coloured on ends but nickel in the middle. Medallion is an Atkins.image.jpeg

Was glad to find them both but not sure that the Atkins is worth pursuing

Thanks Dave. I spent about 20 minutes on the D-8 cleaning and darkening the etch which was time well spent.

How did you darken the etch. Did not know you could do that

Pmcgee started this thread: https://www.woodworkforums.com/f152/restoring-etch-164222
you have to have something to work with it wont work if you can't see any thing or if you sand it off . I paint on brass darkening solution then lightly sand.

MarvW let me know that the Atkins handle is a a user made handle. I'll keep the blade and the nuts but not the handle.

What will you make your new handle from.
I have not made a saw handle in about 1/4 of a century. Wow that makes me feel old lol

Thank you Dave for your courtesy in assuming that I have contemplated making and will make the handle. Not sure if you are familiar with the schedule of works here Dave but it will go on the back burner until it rotates to the top of the pile.
Speaking of which time to tidy up the pile!

I've almost given up having any sort of order in my 'pile' as soon as I think "I'll do that today!" something else is prioritized for me and all of a sudden I'm a month behind
$3 a saw that's about where I'm at as an average
but out of that there are not that many keepersregards
